MotoGP 21 analysis

For some time now, there have been several development studios specialized in recreating speed games of different styles. Codemasters, Turn10 Studios, Polyphony Digital or Milestone offer us a large number of titles based on the motor world, the latter being the Italian team that concerns us. And because? Well, because each season at this same time brings us the most followed and spectacular competition in the world linked to the world of motorcycles. MotoGP 21 appears in all current game formats (including PC, Switch and New Generation consoles) to the delight of its thousands of fansthat exist in our territory, which as you know is one of the main markets and which, in fact, contributes a good number of tournaments to said official competition, four exactly (Jerez, Catalonia, Valencia and Aragon).

As is usual in the annual sagas, and more so in those of a sporting nature, the changes and innovations that have been integrated into this edition are rather light. Something that we are not going to overlook, not expected, and that in a moment we are going to comment in great detail, although the first thing that must also be confirmed in case there is still some clueless is its official character. MotoGP 21 is the only official game that has the Dorna license to incorporate all the riders, teams, circuits and other paraphernalia that surrounds the most important event related to the world of motorcycles in the world. A license that is worth its weight in gold for a multitude of enthusiasts and followers of Marc Márquez, Valentino Rossi and company.

The motor world welcomes with open arms the new edition of the motorcycle simulator par excellence: ‘MotoGP 21’.

A great trajectory

One of the main qualities that this speed title possesses has to do with how complete it is in global terms. That is, because if there is one thing this saga can boast about for a while, it is by offering players a wide range of options and game modes that is capable of satisfying even the most demanding user. And that spinning fine in this sense can be attributed to the fact of not including split-screen multiplayer mode, not even doubles, a modality that for some time now and with the rise of online mode, is increasingly in disuse … but some users (the least, it is also true) miss it.

On this occasion, the suspension of the motorcycles will be vital when accelerating, braking and taking each curve. One more step towards realism.

As is customary in this franchise and taking up what was recreated in last year’s version (and which was well received by users), the main game mode is Career. A really attractive and well-made option that has been refined in this installment and that goes beyond the succession of races with the aim of reaching the throne of the MotoGP category. Instead, in this modality we have to take charge of an entire team and take care of practically everything, including the signings of the most suitable personnel, the management of a multitude of elements that surround this event (such as sponsorship, contracts, etc.) and other fundamental aspects. A game mode that becomes quite interesting and that also has a considerable extension, not to mention that it is also very replayable.

The Trajectory mode is really absorbing and has a good number of elements that need to be managed in the best possible way.

To this great modality are added those that always usually accompany not only this saga, but almost any similar title. Championship, Time Trial, Grand Prix or access to various tutorials are options that are well present … although obviously in this sense the online mode stands out, which can accommodate up to 22 simultaneous drivers in the new generation versions (12 in the rest). A fairly complete offer that is missing some other more original option and that goes beyond the traditional in this field, although it is also true that this is added additional options such as Photo mode or the possibility of accessing different editors(pilots, helmets, stickers, etc.). In short, it is a very complete game in this sense, something that Milestone tends to take great care of in all its productions.

When we brake we have to be very attentive to the issue of the heat of the pads and the conditions of the wheels.

Regarding its playable aspect, again we are facing a title that stands out especially for the incredible flexibility it offers to players. That is, given that depending on our tastes and skill level, we can recreate a more arcade experience or, on the contrary, face a simulator that we confess that in our case it is capable of blushing because of how complicated it can be to maintain the bike on the track by deactivating all possible aids (transmission, tracing, braking…) and increasing the general difficulty level. A real challenge in the latter case suitable only for the most expert players but which, we reiterate, can be incredibly lowered if we wish. In any case and once on the track, the sensations that the title leaves us are really good, being a very enjoyable game and reaching very high levels of realism .

The feeling of speed is very successful from any perspective with which we follow each race.

Entering the field of novelties, the truth is that there is not much to scratch, although some of the innovations have their relevance, especially in the version that we have tested corresponding to PS5. One of the most curious is that, if we play in a simulation plan, when we fall off the bike we have to go look for it again to try to get out on the track again. More draft have everything related to tires and braking. This time braking is much more relevant and we have to be aware of whether the brake pads get too hot so as not to lose efficiency. And the same happens with the tires, which wear out and lose grip with the passage of laps. It has also given us the feeling that the suspension of the motorcycles is also quite noticeable, especially when we go over the pianos, another element that provides a greater degree of authenticity and that, surely, it will be the most experts who will notice everything the most. this … as with the settings. An aspect that in this installment has gained in possibilities and significance and that offers greater control over the subsequent behavior of the motorcycles and their performance.

Technically the title shows a fantastic level: the repetitions look directly like a television broadcast.

A slight evolution is also noted in relation to the New Generation versions, PS5 in this case since it is the one we have tested as we have already commented. The title puts into play a dynamic resolution of 4K and 60 frames per second whose performance does not drop one iota at any time, to which is added better lighting and, what we liked the most, loading times of just five seconds to host each circuit. We also do not want to forget the benefits that the DualSense offers us, where the resistance of the triggers plays a quite important role when trying to convey greater realism to each test in which we take sides. A more than solvent technical finish to which a good dubbing of our language is added and effects recreated with great care.

If we go off track and want to quickly correct our mistake, nothing better than rewinding the action for a few seconds.

A saga that continues to evolve

Obviously and as it happens to all annual sagas, this motorcycle simulator takes small steps in each new installment that reaches users, being very difficult to establish drastic changes and improvements under its belt. MotoGP 21It is a very solid and, above all, truly complete edition that will surely delight all lovers of the world of two wheels and motors in general. The customization options that it presents are very wide and well reflected, the amount of modalities that it incorporates ensure fun for many months and the handling is so flexible that it can be perfectly adjusted by any type of user. It is true that beyond some minor integrations, the update of drivers and equipment and, in the New Generation consoles, a more powerful graphic finish, it does not provide too many innovations in relation to what was established in last season’s version. But despite that, overall it is a very good speed title .
