Gammoth is a real monster in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. It has a rarity of 5, and is definitely one of the best monsters you can find for your party’s early game. Gammoth is the third Royal you come across in the game. The first two are Tigrex and Monoblos. And let me tell you, this Monster’s stats are insane. Excel at every step, early and mid-game. He has an incredible amount of HP, a really high attack, and really great defense stats. I mean, if you go and check the Monsterpedia. It shows that the maximum HP on Tigrex is 6800, and on Monoblos, it is 6000. Gammoth has a maximum HP of 19780!

His Riding Actions, Roar and Mega Breaker, are quite useful. They are useful in many situations. Roar is really useful in locations, where there are too many monsters roaming around. Use Roar, if you just want to pass a group of monsters without participating in a battle. As for Mega Breaker, I was finally able to get my Blue Yian Kut-Ku out of the party. I was using it for Rock Breaker. But now that I have Mega Breaker in Gammoth, I don’t need it anymore. Overall, I highly recommend that you include Gammoth in your party. If you somehow manage to catch it during the middle part of the game, you no longer have to worry about getting hit.

Gammoth location

You can find Gammoth in Woodland – Loloska Region . This is where you meet a Gammoth for the first time. The good news is that you don’t need to specifically search for this location. Just do the quest “Forest Supplies: Investigate Loloska Forest” and you should discover Woodland. The best part is that there is a Catavan outpost right next to the Gammoth location. So if you plan to farm the Royal Monster, a couple of times. You can do it with a minimum of travel. Here is the exact location of Gammoth in Woodland:

How to beat Gammoth

Now when I said, “If you somehow manage to catch it,” earlier, I was actually being serious. Locating Gammoth is the easy part. Beating it is the difficult thing. Extremely difficult.

None of the monsters you’ve encountered so far compare to Gammoth’s level. There’s a great chance that you won’t be able to get over it so soon. Your best bet is to keep doing other things until your level is high enough to match Gammoth. It doesn’t matter even if you have Monsties like Tigrex, Monoblos, or Anjanath in your party. You would lose 9 out of 10 times. And there is a reason for that.

I don’t know how you are going to get over it. This is what I did to beat Gammoth. When I first fought Gammoth, I was knocked out in just 2-3 turns. I was at level 25 at the time, and it didn’t take me long to realize that my level isn’t high enough. So, I continued doing a serious routine and raised my group’s level to 31. How did I do it? Well, I kept repeating Loloska’s elite test mission. from the Kuan Village Quest Board. It took me some time, but it was much faster than fighting monsters in the wild. He was also using the Training Charm on the Prayer Pot to gain extra experience.

After leveling up my entire party to level 31, I decided to give my fight with Gammoth another shot. However, they still beat me until I found out a few things. The reason you will get knocked out 9 out of 10 times is not because of you or your Monstie. It’s for Avinia and Frostfang in your group.

You see, the only way to beat Gammoth, when you’re in the middle of the game, is by constantly doing double attacks and winning your battles head-to-head. And you can actually do that by just going for Speed Attacks. The Gammoth only uses power attacks. So all you have to do is get your Tigrex and keep doing quick attacks. Just remember the RGB rule or the red beats Green beats Bluerule. The problem is that you have no control over Avinia and Frostfang’s attacks. They will randomly go to technical or power attacks, they will take incredible damage and lose their 3 hearts in no time, causing you to lose the whole battle. So I kept doing the story missions again and came back just for the fight after Avinia left my group. It would be better if you could get the armor and weapons shown in the screenshot below:

I didn’t record my fight, but here’s a really amazing video from Youtuber Akantorex , where he shows his solo battle with Gammoth:

How to catch Gammoth

Now to get or catch a Gammoth, you have to make it Retreat. You won’t be able to catch it if you remove it completely.

Get some paintball balls in your inventory. Paintball increases monsters’ Retreat chance for 3 turns, and is most powerful on low-HP monsters. A Paintball costs 200 Zenny. Lower Gammoth’s health bar to 10-15% and throw a paintball. Try to beat him in the next 3 turns. If all goes according to plan, the Gammoth should retreat. Once Retreats, a Monster Lair should appear nearby, marked with a green Lair icon on the Map. Enter the Lair, find Gammoth’s Nest, collect the Egg, and exit the Lair. Now, just visit the stables and hatch the egg. Congratulations! Now you have a Gammoth! You can finally break the bigger rocks.
