Biography

(Lercara Friddi ( Sicily ), 1897 – Naples , 1962 ) He grew up in a villa in Palermo. At age 9 he came to New York and dropped out of school at fourteen. They say that Luciano was very intelligent but aggressive and antisocial. As a teenager he had repeated problems with the law but escaped jail masterfully. He worked as a delivery man for a short period of time, earned $ 5 a day, but one day he won $ 240 at a game of dice and quit the job of the one who, however, learned to transport cocaine in hat boxes. Lucky the Brawler began to associate with Jewish criminalswhen I was in my twenties; Those relationships would last a lifetime. Luciano cared little for the traditions and rites of the Italian-American mafia but could not refuse to participate in them. In time, Luciano would realize that being born in Sicily would bring him great benefits as the mafia was the largest ethnic exclusivist group of all time.

In the early 1920s, Joe “the Boss” Masseria hired Luciano as one of his ampons. Masseria’s group competed with the men of Salvatore Marazzano, between them they held the power of the mafia in New York . Few doubt that Luciano was in charge of eliminating the old Italians that he considered dinosaurs who did not understand the new airs of the mafia in the United States . When Masseria and Marazzano were assassinated (Luciano appears to be the perpetrator of the murders) the Castellammarese war came to an end and under Luciano’s undeniable rule, “The Five Families” of the Mafia reached their golden age.

Despite the fact that Luciano was “primum inter pares” (the first among his peers) he refused to proclaim himself capo di tutti capi, the supreme leader. Luciano made them understand that “For this business to continue, we cannot work with explosions every two minutes, cutting off the heads of our boys just because they come from this or that part of Sicily “:

Luciano was arrested and sentenced to prison, where he spent six years until his release and deportation in World War II. Luciano was still a mafia leader in Italy to later move to Havana where he made his enviable residence. Luciano died of a cardiac arrest in an airport in Italy , he was about to travel to have a film made about his life.
