odontology

The dentistry or stomatology is a branch of the science of health wide dedicated to the study, treatment, diagnosis and prevention of diseases which are derived from the oral cavity.

Historical background

The 3 of October of 1917 was created in the city of Santiago de Chile the Federation Odontológica Latinoamericana (FOLA). In 1925 , on the occasion of the Second Dental Congress of the FOLA, at the initiative of the Argentine delegate it was decided to institute this date as the Day of Latin American Dentistry.

Origin

The origin of the feast of dentists or dentists is found in the year 1917 , when it was created the Federation Odontológica Latino Americana (FOLA). From that moment every year on October 3 a commemoration is made to all professionals.

The word dentist comes from the Greek “odonto” which means tooth .

objective

On this day , a tribute is paid to all the dentists and dentists who do their work to take care of patients and, as far as possible, to solve each of the oral problems.

Different events and conferences are held in which it becomes clear how important and vital healthy and healthy teeth are. For dentists it is vital that the population is aware that oral hygiene must be done daily and as often as necessary to avoid oral diseases and in some cases to avoid being a source of infections. There are also colloquia in which they teach how to properly clean children’s teeth .

For the first time in Cuba

The 3 of October of 1929 is celebrated for the first time in Cuba , the Day of Latin American Dentistry. At the second congress of the Latin American Dental Federation (FOLA), held in Buenos Aires , Argentina , in 1925 , it was proposed that in honor of the emergence of FOLA eight years ago, every October 3 the Latin American Dentistry Day be celebrated, adopting a flag and a shield to identify the organization . In Cuba, the Cuban dentist Dr. Antonio Recasens Garrido , in a session of theCuban Dental Society in February 1925, proposed that in Cuba the Day of Latin American Dentistry will also be celebrated every October 3.

The Latin American Dental Federation was established by the free will of dentists and their institutions at the time of the first Pan American Congress of Dentistry in Santiago, Chile in 1917 . Since its founding, the actions of the FOLA is reinforcing bonds of unity and integration among countries of the region , over the past 85 years old , representing Dentistry of the continent at every stage of institutional life. As a political institution, it works ethically for the validity of Democracy, of equal representation, of active participation and solidarity, for the oral health of the peoples and for the hierarchization of our profession . As a scientific institution dedicated to health, its mission is to collaborate with the governments of the continent in the development and execution of oral health programs that reach all the inhabitants of Latin America with equity
