Kinds of Household Chemicals and their Functions

Recognized or not in everyday life tips always come in contact with various meanings of chemicals . For example, when bathing using soap, shampooing, washing clothes with detergent, and various other activities. All of the products we use are examples of household chemicals.

In addition to cleaning, there are also examples of household chemicals that work for bleach, deodorizers, and insecticides. These kinds of chemicals have different functions from one another. For example cleansers in the form of soap are usually used to clean the body, cleansers in the form of shampoos are used to clean hair. The chemicals used are also different, for example chemicals in soap for example Sodium Palmilat, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Palm Stearate; the chemicals in shampoos are, for example, sodium lauryl ether sulfate, glycol distearate.

Household Chemicals

Household chemicals are non-food chemicals commonly found and used in and around ordinary households. This material consists of types of consumer goods, specifically designed to help with cleaning, maintaining the house and yard, cooking, controlling pests and general cleaning needs.

Kinds of Household Chemicals

As for the various types of household chemicals, among others are as follows;

Cleaner

Cleaners are substances (usually liquids, powders, sprays, or granules) that are used to remove dirt, including dust, stains, unpleasant odors. The purpose of using cleansers includes health, beauty, eliminating odor, and avoiding the spread of dirt and contaminants to yourself and others.

Some cleaners can kill bacteria. For example, such as door handles bacteria, as well as bacteria on the surface of the table and other metal surfaces. Which all of that always clean at the same time. The other, called degreaser, contains organic solvents to help dissolve oils and fats.

The chemicals used for cleaning can be divided into two, namely:

  1. Main ingredients (active ingredients)
  2. Additional ingredients (additives).

Cleaning Function in Household Chemicals

As for the truth, the addition of additives to cleaning agents in households has several functions including;

  1. As a builder
  2. Softener (on clothes)
  3. Staining
  4. Pemberiaroma (fragrance)
  5. Preservative
  6. Thickener
  7. Medium (solvent)

Whereas on the other hand the active ingredient in the cleanser functions as a surfactant. Surfactants have the ability to bind and remove impurities, so fat or dirt that previously could not be mixed with water, can now be mixed with water. Thus, fat or dirt can be removed from the place attached.

Bleach

Bleach is a household chemical whose function is to whiten white clothes that are exposed to stains that are difficult to clean if only with regular cleaning. In addition to whitening clothes, there are also whitening products that are used to whiten teeth, face, skin and body.

How it works clothes bleach ie bleach material will oxidize impurities on clothing so that the dirt can dissolve in water. In addition to fabric whitening products, there are also whitening products for teeth and skin. Teeth whitening can be done in the field of dentistry.

Based on its form, bleach can be divided into two, namely;

  1. Solid
  2. Liquid

Bleach in the form of solid or white powder is calcium hypochlorite with the chemical element Ca (OCl) 2 . People generally recognize these compounds as chlorine, which is usually used to eliminate tap water pests and swimming pools. While liquid bleach is sodium hypochlorite with the element (NaOCl).

Perfume

Fragrances are chemicals that function to scent a room or body. Fragrance products can be in liquid form such as; air freshener, clothes air freshener, and body air freshener. Fragrance or perfume is the result of mixing various kinds of fragrance (fragrance) which is volatile with a certain odor.

The composition of chemicals contained in perfume in general are ethyl alcohol (50-90%), distilled water / distilled water (5-20%), and fragrance (10-30%). Ethyl alcohol functions as a solvent.

Based on the form or shape, fragrance can be divided into three, namely:

  1. Solid fragrance, such as powder.
  2. Liquid perfume, for example deodorant.
  3. Liquid aerosol fragrance, such as perfume. Liquid aerosol deodorant usually uses a booster chemical (propellant) in order to produce aerosols, namely chloroflurocarbons (CFCs).

Fragrances or perfumes that we usually use are water-based and oil-based. In general, water-based deodorizers have a relatively short aroma (fragrance), which is around 3 to 5 hours, making them relatively safer for health than oil-based deodorizers.

However, oil-based fragrances are more durable, so the selling price can be more expensive. This type of fragrance usually uses several solvents / carrier fluids, including isoparafin, diethyl phtalate or mixtures thereof. While the type of deodorizer in the form of spray or spray usually contains isobutane, ribure, propanc or a mixture thereof.

Insect Repellent

Insect repellent or also known as insecticide is an example of chemicals that function to kill and eradicate insects such as; mosquitoes, flies and cockroaches. Most of the insecticide products that are widely circulated in the community are mosquito repellent that we are familiar with.

Based on the form or shape, insecticide products can be divided into two, namely:

  1. There are insecticidal products in the form of liquid, how to use them, which is sprayed throughout the room and applied to the body such as the face, hands and feet.
  2. Insect repellent products in the form of solid, how to use is quite burned and some are using electricity

The Function of Household Chemicals

In general, a variety of chemical functions that are used in household needs, among others;

  1. Make it easier for humans to run their daily lives, because it is helped by a fast and instant process.
  2. Help treat humans from various types of diseases. This can be seen if when someone feels sick (not feeling well) the intended destination is a variety of drugs that are all produced from the analysis of pharmaceutical chemistry.
  3. Shorten the time that is more flexible, this is because all forms of chemical management can function as a tool to narrow time so that it can be maximized in other activities.

Well, that was the discussion that could be given to all readers related to various types of household chemicals , functions, and examples. Hopefully through this article provide insight and increase knowledge for all readers. Thanks,
