iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13: what are the differences?

Are there any differences between iPhone 14 and iPhone 13? The answer is yes, there are few but there are. Let’s find out which ones and which of the two are worth buying.

The new generation of iPhone was announced by Apple in September and never as this year feels the need to compare the newcomer with its predecessor ( iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13 ). The Cupertino giant, in fact, has reserved the most important innovations for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, transforming the base model into a sort of basic update of its predecessor while increasing the starting price. Not wanting to analyze the reasons that led Apple to raise the selling price in Europe, here we will compare the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 , highlighting the differences that – albeit a little hidden – exist.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13: the price

iPhone 13 arrived on the market with a list price of 939 euros and remained in the catalog with the same positioning despite the arrival of the iPhone 14, but online it is also possible to find it at lower figures.

iPhone 14 , on the other hand, is more expensive: the list price is 1,029 euros, but it offers something more. The memory cuts that remain from 128, 256 and 512 GB do not change but the RAM rises to 6 GB for the iPhone 14 (4 GB for the iPhone 13).

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13: the differences

The differences between iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 are not striking, but there are and they concern:

  • The camera
  • Functions
  • Battery
  • Colors

For the rest, the processor is the same with an improvement to the GPU (the unit that manages the graphics part) and on the iPhone 14 we find already installed iOS 16, which is however also compatible with iPhone 13.

iPhone 14

The camera

iPhone 14 is equipped with two 12 MP rear cameras , exactly like iPhone 13. This leads us to believe that we are talking about the same photographic system and instead it is not. iPhone 14 has a new main camera with larger sensor and pixels that – together with Photonic Engine – improves performance in low light conditions. This means that the new iPhone ensures better quality photos at night with more details and more sharpness.

The same improvement was also made on the TrueDepth front camera which now can also count on autofocus, allowing you to quickly focus on framed subjects.

Functions

Staying in the photographic field, Apple has improved the Cinema mode by bringing the recording to 4K resolution at 30 fps on the iPhone 14 while on the iPhone 13 it stops at 1,080p at 30 fps. In addition, a new Action mode has been introduced that allows you to record smooth video even when on the move by adjusting the shaking.

With the iPhone 14 also come new safety features, such as incident detection and emergency calls via satellite. The latter, however, for the moment will be available only in the United States and Canada, so for us Italian users it doesn’t make much difference. Accident detection, on the other hand, works in a similar way to fall detection. If the iPhone reveals a serious accident, it automatically calls for help if the user does not respond within seconds to the notification that arrives on the smartphone.

iPhone 13

Battery

Apple never discloses battery data. However, iPhone 14 promises greater autonomy: up to 20 hours of video playback versus 19 hours of the iPhone 13 . A small improvement that never hurts anyway. All while maintaining the same processor as last year, the A15-Bionic which however comes with a new GPU that offers smoother graphics both while watching videos and while playing.

Colors

iPhone 14 introduces the new purple color, while the variants drop to five.

  • iPhone 14 is available in purple, blue, midnight, galaxy and red
  • iPhone 13 is available in green, pink, blue, midnight, galaxy and red colors.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13: which one to buy?

iPhone 14 introduces some improvements over iPhone 13 , but not so many to justify a higher expense. The advice is to focus on last year’s model that still has a lot to offer and if you want to save money while still enjoying a high-level experience, Apple has left the iPhone 12 in the catalog (here you can read our comparison with the iPhone 13) . Finally, if you prefer to have a bigger screen, don’t forget that there is the iPhone 14 Plus featuring a 6.7-inch screen.
