How to use an Android mobile as a microphone in Windows

If your PC does not have a microphone or the one you have is of poor quality, remember that you can always use the microphone of your Android phone. The mobile microphone is usually quite decent, and at a given moment it can perfectly save us from an emergency.

There are several applications to connect the Android microphone with the PC , being WO Mic one of the most complete free tools to carry out this task. Let’s see how it works.

How to use Android as a microphone for PC (WO Mic)

WO Mic is the most popular application to take advantage of the mobile microphone in Windows, although we must be careful and download the corresponding software only from the developer’s website. A virus using the same name as this program spread a couple of years ago, so we should avoid any download page other than the official one .

For the rest, it is a free application, with very little lag that also offers several connection methods: USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct .

  • Go to the official page of WO Mic at https://wolicheng.com/womic/.
  • Download the WO Mic client for Windows. The program is also available for Linux.
  • Then download the version of WO Mic for Android, available in the Google Play StoreNote: There is also a version of WO Mic for iOS on the App Store .

Once the app is installed on both the PC and Android phone, go to the PC and open the WO Mic for Windows program.

If you get any DLL errors, install Microsoft’s VC runtime re-distributable (x86) package , which includes the necessary components to run the program correctly.

  • Go to “ Connection -> Connect” to see the available connection options.
  • In the menu on the left select the type of connection you want to use, be it Bluetooth, USB, Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct. For this example we will select the “ Wi-Fi” option .
  • Make sure both your PC and Android device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Now open the WO Mic app on your Android device.
  • Click on the play button that you will see at the top of the screen and accept the microphone access permissions requested by the application.
  • Then write down the IP address (192.168.XX) that appears on the screen. This is the IP of your mobile phone at the moment within the network.
  • Go back to the PC screen and in the connection settings make sure that the option “ Transport type -> Wi-Fi” is selected
  • In the “ Details -> Phone IP Address” section, enter the IP that you just entered on the mobile. Tap “Connect” to establish the connection between Android device and PC.
  • If the connection has been established correctly, you will see a green circle in the WO Mic app on Android.

Microphone set up! From here you can use the mobile microphone as a new audio input in Windows.

If you want to test, you can verify that the microphone works correctly from the WO Mic application for PC, by clicking on “Options -> Play in speaker”. This will allow you to hear the microphone sound from your computer speakers.

Of course, do not forget to deactivate this option after doing the test.

Other connection options: Bluetooth, USB and Wi-Fi Direct

As we said at the beginning, WO Mic offers several connection options. Let’s see how each of them works in a little more detail.

  • USB: Connecting via USB is quite simple, but first you need to enable USB debugging on Android . Once activated, simply connect a USB cable from the mobile to the PC. Then go to “ Connection -> Connect ” in WO Mic Windows client, select “USB” option. Important: make sure the PC correctly recognizes the Android device (you may have to install the mobile drivers on the PC).
  • Bluetooth:To connect the mobile to the PC via Bluetooth, activate the Bluetooth signal on Android. Then activate Bluetooth on the PC. Go to Bluetooth options in Windows and pair both devices. To finish, in the WO Mic configuration options select “Transport type: Bluetooth” and in “Target Bluetooth device” choose your Android device. Finally, press “Connect” to activate the microphone.
  • Wi-Fi Direct: This is probably the most complicated option, and is only recommended if you don’t have any internet connection available beyond your Android’s data connection. What we have to do is create a Wi-Fi hotspot on Android and connect the PC to that same Wi-Fi network. Then, in WO Mic select “Transport type: Wi-Fi Direct” and write down the IP of the Android device to establish the connection.

Other solutions to use an Android mobile as a microphone for PC (EZ-Mic)

EZ-Mic is another application similar to WO Mic that also allows us to take advantage of the phone’s microphone to use it on our computer or laptop. The application is free, although it only allows connection via Wi-Fi .

It should also be mentioned that the Android version hasn’t been updated since 2017, so if we have any compatibility problems, the best thing we can do is turn to Wo Mic, which continues to receive frequent updates on the Play Store today.

For the rest, EZ-Mic works in a very similar way, with a Windows client and an Android app that we must install and run to establish the connection between the two devices, as long as they are within the same Wi-Fi network, Sure.
