How to speed up iPhone 4?

How to speed up iPhone 4? In this article I describe five simple steps to do to give new life to your dying iPhone 4 (space, ram)

The contents of the article

  • reset settings (optional)
  • free up space by deleting unnecessary apps
  • free up space by deleting images and videos
  • disable notifications in the drop-down menu
  • disable localization for apps that don’t use it

I   have been happy to own an iPhone 4 since 2011 , however since ios 8 and (especially) the iPhone 6 came out, the performance of my little iPhone has drastically deteriorated.

General slowness, sudden app crashes, some completely blocked, in short, a real bloodbath .

So I said to myself:

or I change smartphone or restore it from scratch or I speed it up # iPhone4CLICK TO TWEET

The first solution is too expensive while the second too long (and above all not very geeky …)

So I focused on the third hypothesis: speed up my iPhone 4

In reality there would be a fourth solution, switching to a refurbished iPhone , in this article I compare the best ecommerce where to buy refurbished and refurbished iPhones. Apple quality at rock bottom prices!

But let’s get back to us and how to speed up an iPhone 4.

I inquired, read some interesting guides and finally performed the following (five) steps.

I was thus able to revive my little smartphone which is now faster than ever!

Here are the five tips of the Etruscan :

  1. resetsettings
  2. free up space by deletingunnecessary apps
  3. free up space by deleting imagesand videos
  4. disable notificationsin the drop-down menu
  5. disable localizationfor apps that don’t use it

With these five things done, my iPhone 4 is (literally) reborn .

If you want to buy a refurbished iphone and save (a lot ) on the price you can’t miss my article  on the best ecommerce where to buy a refurbished iphone

Let’s see in detail how to do it step by step.

Oops, I forgot: before starting, let’s make a nice backup of our device, for safety and to work in complete peace of mind.

1. reset settings (optional)

This first operation is optional , that is , you are not obliged to do it, even if it is strongly recommended because it allows us to start from a standard situation that is the same for everyone.

You are trying to revive your iPhone, something you have to give … the settings are one of them.

So let’s start by doing a nice reset of the settings , we need to go to:

“Settings” – “general” – “reset” – “reset settings”

by doing so we will reset all the settings of our iPhone, without losing any data (apps, data and images)

ATTENTION: What does a settings reset involve? It means that all the personal configurations you have made over the years will be lost (e.g. background screen, favorite ringtone, WiFi password, …)

2. free up space by deleting unnecessary apps

To free up space on our iPhone, we first of all look for the “useless” apps and delete the heavier ones, ie those that take up more space.

What are the “useless” apps? The ones we never use! And I assure you that there are many … just look for them!

To do this we go to:

“Settings” – “general” – “use”

Let’s see under the heading ” ARCHIVING ” how much space is available to us, we must try to increase this item to the maximum, reaching at least ” 2 GB available ”

We look for “useless” apps and especially those that take up more space.

Consider that they are ordered according to the space occupied, so the former are the heaviest, the latter the lightest.

Once we have found the app to delete, select it and click on ” Delete app”

We do this for any apps that we find useless.

3. free up space by deleting images and videos

Always following the procedure indicated above, we try to understand how much space our photos and videos occupy .

The tendency is always to never delete anything, we must instead free up space.

So let’s see how much the “ Photo / camera ” item “weighs” if we exceed 1 GB then we go in and see the detail of every single item.

We have to lower the “ Camera Roll ” item to the maximum, that is the one on which we can act quickly.

If “ Camera Roll ” takes up a lot of space then we must necessarily delete some photos and / or videos.

To do this we go to:

“Images” – “select”

and select the photos and videos to be deleted.

once selected, click on the trash can symbol at the bottom right.

4. disable notifications in the drop-down menu

We have restored the original settings, we have freed up space now let’s try to speed up the memory of our iPhone 4.

To do this we can disable app notifications on the drop-down menu, i.e. those notifications that appear in the menu that appears when we swipe the screen of our iPhone from top to bottom.

To do this we go to:

“Settings” – “notification center”

and look for all the apps that are under ” INCLUDE ”

by clicking on the app we look for the item ” ALERTS ” – ” Show in notification center ” and deselect it

Let’s do it for ALL apps, at the end the ” INCLUDE ” item must be empty.

E ‘can also do this by clicking on ” Edit ” and moving apps from “section INCLUDE ” to ” NOT INCLUDE ”

5. disable localization for apps that don’t use it

There remains this last step which, in theory, should not even be performed because if you have restored the settings it is already in place, but which I will explain anyway if you decide not to follow point 1)

With this step we are going to disable the use of GPS (localization) for apps that do not need this feature.

To do this we go to:

“Settings” – “privacy” – “location”

And we disable the functionality for all apps that (in our opinion) do not need geolocation.

Of course, if you use a ” running ” app you cannot disable the GPS, but for many other apps I assure you that the localization is not needed.

I’ve removed it from almost all of them!

Once this is done, restart the iPhone 4 and enjoy your brand new iPhone, fast and performing like never before.
