How to send ‘soundmojis’ on Facebook Messenger

Last July, Facebook presented the phonoticons or soundmojis for Messenger , its instant messaging app. These are sound emojis that allow users to send short sound clips through chat. Facebook Messenger users can choose from a selection of sound effect options such as crickets, claps, drum rolls or an evil laugh. Each sound is represented by an emoji and is sent without the need to add words or any kind of text

How to send 'soundmojis' on Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger soundmojis are emoticons that represent sounds and are sent without adding text

These soundmojis are currently only available for Facebook Messenger . However, since Facebook also owns WhatsApp and Instagram, it would not be unusual for this format to be incorporated into the chats of these apps in the future. Here’s how you can use these soundmojis in your Facebook Messenger chats:

-Activate the microphone: In order to use the soundmojis, Facebook Messenger must be authorized to access the microphone of your mobile phone. To do this, you must open the Settings folder of your device. From it you will have to access the tab in which the settings related to Facebook Messenger are regulated. In doing so, look for the option related to the microphone and move the button to put it in “On”.

-Open the chat: Once you have activated the microphone you must open the Facebook Messenger app and enter one of the chats. When you click on the text box you will see that an icon of a smiley face appears in the right corner.

This icon will display a window with four options in its upper strip. From left to right, you will see some icons in the shape of a star, a sticker, a “GIF” icon and, to the far right, one in the shape of a speaker. Click on this to access the soundmojis.

-Select and send: The speaker-shaped icon will take you to a screen where all the available soundmojis appear. It is possible to listen to these soundmojis before sending them, and once you tap on one of them and then on “Send”, it will appear in the chat. The recipient has to tap on it and activate the audio on their device to hear it.
