How to remove notifications “A contact joined Telegram”

Many users who used Telegram since before it “became fashionable”, have noticed how every day they receive notifications of “A contact joined Telegram” . They are contacts that they have registered in their agenda and that before did not use Telegram and suddenly they have joined the messaging app.

Recently we have seen a growing number of users coming to Telegram due to a series of circumstances that we are not going to assess , but for one reason or another, we are going to explain how to get rid of those annoying notifications of “A contact joined Telegram “.

How to mute Telegram chats

These notifications are somewhat annoying, since, with them, a chat with that contact is opened . The same is someone with whom we do not have the slightest intention of talking, and that from one day to the next we see a dozen open chats of contacts that we have registered in our agenda.

It is quite easy to say goodbye to those notifications, and throughout this short tutorial we will check it, since, in just two clicks, we will never receive this type of notifications in our Telegram app again:

Important: these steps have to be followed both in the mobile app and in Telegram Desktop for the computer (if you have it).

  • We open the Telegram app, and click on the 3 horizontal lines that we see on the left.
  • We locate “Settings” and enter. Then we must click on “Notifications and sounds” .
  • We scroll, until we find the option “A contact joined Telegram” .
  • We deactivate the box , and we will no longer receive notifications of this type.

Delete Telegram chats

There would also be the option of eliminating that conversation that is created automatically , or also archiving that chat, but this last option is not the most successful, since it is of little or nothing.

If we have followed the previous steps to not receive more notifications, but we have open chats of people who join Telegram, what we can do is eliminate the chats that we are not interested in:

  • We hold down the chat that we want to delete and click on the garbage-shaped icon that appears at the top right.
  • A dialog box opens with the option “Delete chat” , but they give us the option to delete our chat also in the Telegram app of the other person. Whether or not to check that box is up to each of us.
  • At the bottom there is a 5-second countdown, which is how long Telegram takes to delete the chat.
  • We must repeat these steps with all the chats that we want to delete from our Telegram app.

I keep getting these notifications, what do I do?

It is very likely that at first we will continue to receive notifications of “a contact joined Telegram”, but this has two possible solutions:

Sign off

On the one hand, we must close the session on the devices that we do not use (they can be mobiles that we no longer use, tablets, computers, etc.). It is true that Telegram synchronizes very well between all the devices in which we have it installed, but it is possible that we continue to receive these notifications.

To close the session, we must do the following:

Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Active sessions -> Close session of those devices in which we no longer use Telegram.

Desynchronize

This action is a bit more violent, since it requires an action that is to eliminate access to our contacts by Telegram. To achieve this, we must follow this path:

Settings -> Privacy and security -> Deactivate Contacts synchronization -> Delete synchronized contacts.

The only negative of this fact is that Telegram can go quite badly, and that the sending and receiving of messages, the synchronization between devices, the search, etc.
