How to protect a baby from insect bites

The spring and summer period is the time for vacations, country trips, and recreation in nature near water bodies. However, pleasant impressions from walks in the fresh air can be overshadowed by annoying insects. The bites of mosquitoes, midges, ticks, etc. can cause not only redness and itching, but the consequences are much more serious, for example, allergies. Modern manufacturers offer a wide range of products that protect the child from mosquitoes and other nastiness . Let’s consider the main features of products and selection criteria.

How to protect the house from insects?

Even if you completely refuse to go for walks (which, of course, you should not do), you cannot completely protect yourself and your child from insects. You can protect your baby’s delicate skin from annoying mosquitoes by using:

  1. mosquito nets for windows and doors, which can reduce the number of insects entering the house by up to 95%;
  2. canopies for the crib to protect the smallest from mosquitoes;
  3. electric fumigators and repellents intended for premises.

When choosing means for fumigators, one should take into account the naturalness of their composition, the absence of harmful substances that smell strongly of aroma, so as not to cause allergic reactions in the crumbs.

We protect the child during walks

A huge number of insects live on the street, especially in parks and near water bodies, which can cause discomfort while walking. The following will help protect your baby from mosquitoes during outdoor recreation:

  • mosquito nets for a bassinet or a walking block (can be included with the stroller or purchased separately);
  • bracelets, key chains, stickers with a repellent, often on an oil basis, which emits an insect-repelling smell into the air;
  • ointments, gels and creams that are applied directly to the child’s skin and are able to repel not only gnats and mosquitoes, but also ticks (intended for children over 3 years old);
  • sprays, the main difference of which is the possibility of applying both to the skin and clothes;
  • spirals of dried pyrethrum, which emit smoke that repels insects when decaying;
  • folk remedies (lavender, lemon balm, marigolds, verbena, and sage), which can be planted in the summer cottage or use essential plant oils.

When buying a repellent, you should definitely read the composition and the time of its action. In no case is it recommended to use products intended for adults on a child, as this can cause dermatitis and allergies.

It is worth noting that due to the structure of the visual system of stinging insects, they are not attracted to light colors, so it is better to dress the child for a walk in things of white and beige shades. At the same time, bright yellow things repel mosquitoes. For a walk in the park or forest, you must wear a small panama or a cap, which will protect you not only from sunstroke, but also from ticks.

If an insect has bitten a child, it is important to immediately give him an antihistamine, and to apply allergy ointment or gel to the bite site.
