Location of each secret chest in the game
There are 10 secret chests in A Plague Tale: Requiem . If you find all of them, you will unlock the “Explorer” achievement. Chests look like closed chests. And to open most of them, you will need knives.
If you miss any chest on your first playthrough, complete the story and select that chapter again via the appropriate chapter selection section. Or you can start New Game+. Unlike other collectibles, chests are not tracked in Chapter Select or the Codex. To check the total number of open chests, use the trophy tracker. However, it doesn’t state in which chapters you missed the chests.
Important! To open secret chests, you will need knives (we talk about them in a separate guide). So try not to waste them on killing enemies with helmets! They are disposable and break after the first kill. Make sure you have at least one knife in your inventory, and then you will definitely open the next secret chest. On rare occasions, Amicia will automatically use the knife against melee enemies, preventing a mortal wound. If this happens, restart the checkpoint immediately. If you get to the secret chest and you don’t have the knife, replay the episode and find the knife, then use chapter select. On easy difficulty you will find more knives, on higher difficulty you will find less. For this reason, in order to collect all the knives, complete the game on a low difficulty level.

Chapter 3
Secret chest #1
- Goal: escape from the fort.
Look for the chest directly opposite the place where you found the knife and sling (in the far right corner of the warehouse). It is in plain sight and hard to miss. All secret chests are locked and require 1 (immediate breakable) knife to open. Basically, a chest is a closed workbench that you can use. In addition, after opening, the workbench will contain various items for crafting and improvements. There are a total of 10 such “secret chests” (workbenches) in the game, so keep at least one knife in your inventory in the future. And never use knives to kill enemies!
Chapter 4
Secret chest #2
- Task: get to the ship of the Order.
After the first encounter with the enemy, you will find yourself in an area with rats. When you can push the cart with the burning brazier, move it to the left side, where the stairs are. Head up the stairs to find a locked chest with a workbench. As usual, you need a knife to open it. One of them could be found earlier (we talk about knives in separate guides).
Chapter 5. After us
Secret chest #3
- Task: find a way to get to the boat.
After using the moving platform to get across the river, shoot the counterweight. So you get rid of the chain blocking the river. The fence will be destroyed and you can explore the beach. Follow the house where the counterweight was, and look for the stairs leading to the attic behind it. There is a secret chest there. You will need the knife found earlier (read our separate guide) to open the chest. If you did not pick up or use a knife, replay the fifth chapter from the very beginning through the “Chapter Select” menu.
Chapter 6
Secret chest #4
- Task: find a way out of the building.
After you leave the quarry, you will face a major battle with enemies in an area that looks like a desert. After that, enter the building. Once inside, make your way under the shelves in the right corner (a piece of tarp is hanging from the shelf, so the passage is slightly hidden). There you will find a secret chest. Use the knife found in the previous battle to open the chest. As usual, inside it will be a workbench and parts for improvement. Don’t rush through the next door to the room with the burning corpses, as there is another collectible here!
Chapter 7. Criminals
Secret chest #5
- Objective: Find the smuggler’s hideout.
When you meet the enemy in the cave and get rid of the rats, follow to the right side, where the boat is located. In no case do not interact with the coffin blocking the path. It has a secret chest. As usual, a knife is required to open, and one of them can be found next to the herbarium at the beginning of the seventh chapter.

There are no secret chests at this level.
Chapter 9
Secret chest #6
- Objective: Follow the bird statues.
Once in an open area that can be explored, move towards the mountain with two peaks. Look to the left of the path leading to the mountains for a ruined tower. Shoot through the window at the lock on the door. Go through the door, behind which you will find a knife. Climb the stairs to find the secret chest itself.
Secret chest #7
- Task: find a way to bypass the post.
In the mountains you will find goats on the road. Climb up the path to the left of the animals, climb onto the ledge and move forward. Halfway up the stairs to the left. If there is no knife, replay the chapter. One of the knives can be found in the tower with the previous secret chest. The same knife can be used to open both chests. You just have to replay the chapter twice.
Chapter 10
Secret chest #8
- Task: use the prism of Sofia.
When she has to pass through a courtyard infested with rats, Sophia uses her prism to light the way. Fire up the second brazier and look in the right corner for an object on which Sophia should place a prism from the second brazier (ALT and LMB). Go to the entrance to the tower, on top of which there is a chest. To return, go downstairs and order Sophia to use the prism on the brazier again.
Chapter 11
Secret chest #9
- Objective: Explore the rest of the dungeon.
After solving the story puzzle by opening a large gate locked with four metal bars, you need to go through the room with the rats. Right after the rats you have to climb up two ledges and use your sling to break the chains and get through. Right after you make your way through the chains, turn left and go through the second set of chains, behind which you will find a secret chest.
Chapter 12
There are no secret chests at this level.
Chapter 13. Void
Secret chest #10
- Purpose: to get to the port.
After another encounter with the enemy in the thirteenth chapter, you will find a wagon that you need to push in order to progress through the story. Instead of pushing her forward, turn around and push her back to where you came from. Climb up and open the door to find the chronologically last chest.
Chapters 14-17
There are no secret chests in these levels.
