How to hide files on Android

On many modern smartphones, an option such as a fingerprint scanner is available. This is a reliable way to protect your data. But sometimes, for various reasons, the owner still needs to hide from prying eyes some files that are in quick access. For example, a mom or dad does not want the child to see their private intimate photos. Perhaps a surprise is being prepared for some of the household members, and this must also be kept secret. So, it’s easy to do it, and now you will find out how.

Of course, the Google Play app has tons of utilities that act as a file manager. With the help of them, you can transfer to a secret place all the files that need to be hidden from prying eyes. These applications have the ability to set protection (password or biometrics) so that someone from outside could not see hidden files if the phone accidentally ends up in the wrong hands. This is reliable, but still the hidden information can be declassified, since the system does not allow using a different fingerprint for the secret folder. For this reason, it is better to resort to standard methods.

Hide files on Android gadgets

Follow these steps:

  • start the “Files” application and go to the “Internal memory”;
  • open the context menu and click on “New folder”;
  • give the folder any name, put a period (.) in front of its name;
  • return to the main screen in the Files application and open the context menu;
  • go to Settings;
  • activate the item on the reflection of system files;
  • select the files on the device to be hidden, click “Move”, find and select the recently created folder for secret information;
  • return to Settings and turn off the item about displaying system files (turn it on again when searching for hidden information).

The last point is required, because if you do not enable the display of system files (whose names begin with a dot), then you will not be able to find the secret folder.

However, do not forget to turn off the display of system files, otherwise someone else may accidentally sneak into the phone’s file system and declassify you.

So, we have told you the most reliable way to hide files. It does not imply the installation of third-party applications, which means the appearance of new icons on the desktop. Although the developers try to make the icon as invisible as possible, it is still unsafe for storing classified information.
