How to do when the computer restarts on its own?

Here are 4 solutions you can try to fix this problem. You may not need to try them all; go through the list until you find the one that works.

  1. Disable the automatic restart function
  2. Change the advanced power settings
  3. Reinstall the graphics card driver
  4. Check the power problem

Disable the Auto Restart Function

1) Type this PC My Computer Computer  (depending on your OS) in the search box from Start. Then right-click on it from the result to select  Properties .

2) Click  Advanced System Settings . Keep clicking on  Settings …

3) Uncheck  Automatically restart . Then click OK .

4) Work on your computer for a while to see if it randomly restarts.

If you want to enable automatic restart again, read this guide .

Change the advanced power settings

1) Type  Power Options  in the search box from Start. Then click Change power plan or other items related to power settings.

2) Click  Change Advanced Power Settings .

3) In the Balanced section, click  Processor Power Management >  Minimum Processor Status . Then set it to a low state, such as 5% or even 0% .

Click  Apply  >  OK .

4) Work on your computer for a while to see if it randomly restarts.

Update the graphics card driver

The automatic restart, without any warning on Windows operating systems, could also be caused by an old or incorrect graphics card driver. To update your Windows computer drivers, read the related guide: How to update drivers on Windows.

Once all the drivers have been updated, proceed with the following steps:

4) Restart your computer.

5) Work on your computer for a while to see if it randomly restarts.

Check the power status of your PC

As reported by many users, the power problem could also cause the computer to restart randomly.

In this case, you can try replacing the power cables and power supply  unit (PSU) and then observe if the computer keeps restarting.
