How to create a Minecraft server in Aternos

Creating a server in Minecraft to play with our friends is really simple, thanks to Aternos , we can automatically create a server for Minecraft and enjoy it forever and best of all, for free.

Minecraft server allows us to play with our friends or with other people who know the server address. The server is a Minecraft world as well as an offline world, in which you can create all kinds of constructions, and do whatever you want, either alone or with others.

Aternos is a Minecraft server manager in which for free we can create a server with 2 GB of RAM , more than enough memory to support up to 20 simultaneous players for free, but with some drawbacks.

Aternos allows you to create the servers that you want for free, but paying a price, that price is a waiting time, that is, when we turn on our server, we will have a maximum of 6 minutes to connect, otherwise the server will close itself.

We will have a waiting time depending on the demand for servers, we can have a wait of up to hours, although it is true that the wait for hours has been mainly in the quarantine time that we have lived these months ago, so now the waiting times they are much shorter, not exceeding 20 minutes.

Minecraft now requires a Microsoft account

The steps to create a server in Minecraft Aternos are very simple because if we do not want to enter advanced settings we will only have to follow these simple steps:

  • First we enter the Aternos website.
  • Now we will have to create an account or log in with a Google or Facebook account, this is the fastest option.
  • Now click on the “Play” button at the bottom left.
  • Now, since we do not have any server created we will have to create one, for this we will have to click on “Create a server”.
  • Next, we will have to edit the address of our server and its welcome message by pressing the pencil icon.
  • Now we have created our server. We must click on Start.
  • After a short period of time, the server will start to start after a waiting time , in our case the waiting time was 3 minutes, but all this depends on the demand for free servers at that time.
  • Now once the waiting time is over we can connect to our Minecraft server, which will be online for 6 minutes until someone connects, when someone is connected the server will remain online until there is no one left.

Login to the server from Minecraft

To enter our server, you just have to know its address, in our case the server address is “elgrupoinformatico.aternos.me” . This will be the address that we use to enter the server.

  • We open Minecraft from our computer.
  • In the Minecraft launcher we will have to look at having the same version as the server, by default the server is created with the latest version of the stable game.
  • Now in the main menu of the game we will press the “Multiplayer”.
  • Then in “add server” and we will have to copy the address of our server or the address that they have given you.
  • Now you will immediately connect to your new server or someone else’s and you can play as much as you want, until the server host turns it off.

Modify server parameters

The server has a series of parameters that can be modified, some of them will not be able to have the free version of Aternos. We show you what each parameter is for and modify it by clicking on the blue key below our server that says “Configure your server”:

  • Spaces: this parameter indicates the maximum number of players that the server allows, we advise you not to exceed the number of 20 for a free server, and that you could have lag problems.
  • Gamemode: it is the type of game that the server will have, we can choose 4 types of game; Survival, Creative, Adventure and Spectator.
  • Difficulty: we can choose the level of difficulty of the server being able to choose between; easy, peaceful, normal and difficult.
  • Whitelist: means white list, that is, it is a list in which we will write the user names of the people we want to enter the server.
  • Cracked: this parameter is used so that users who have unofficial Minecraft launchers can enter it, that is, whoever has the pirated game.
  • PVP: This enables or disables combat between players.
  • Command blocks: with this option you can activate the use of command blocks in Minecraft, very useful for doing quick tasks and the use of commands within the game.
  • Fly: Allows you or not to fly in the game with the Elytra wings or glide with the cape.
  • Animals, monster and villagers: these options allow us to spawn all these mobs in our world.
  • Underworld: commonly called “Nether” or hell, activates or deactivates this dimension of the Minecraft server.
  • Form game mode: with this option you will not be able to change the game mode within the server through commands.
  • Spawn protection: we can select the number of protection that we will have when we spawn or when we revive if we have died.
  • Resource Package URL: we can put a resource package, that is, modify the textures of the game, or the sounds by means of a ZIP file.

All these options can be modified as long as the server is off, so that the changes take effect. There is another additional configuration button with which we can add a series of improvements to our world, such as the use of mods within our server.

Software in Java Edition

The edition that we will use of our server and Minecraft is for the Java Edition, since we can install the following internal programs:

  • Forge: is an implementation for mod support on our server.
  • Spigot / Bukkit: allows us to add plugins for our server.
  • Paper / Bukkit: same as above, but from another developer.
  • Modpacks: we will have the option to add a whole pack of mods which will modify the entire server and so you can have much more fun, since mods greatly expand the gaming experience.
  • Snapshot: we will have the option of being able to add a trial version to the server, because if for example we are in version 16.1.4 of Minecraft and if there is a beta version we can add it to the server which have the format XXwXXa being the version number of the game.
  • Fabric, Glowstone and Magma : they are different add-ons to support plugins on the server which are only available in some versions somewhat older than the current one since they are hardly used and it is best to use mods since they personalize the game in a greater way.

As you have already seen, creating a server in Aternos is really simple , so that we can play with whoever we want. Aternos allows us to do it for free and without advanced knowledge, since it is possible to do it in a more advanced way and using your own computer as your own server.
