How To Check Bluetooth Headphone Battery

Before explaining how to see the battery of Bluetooth headphones on your smartphone or tablet, I have to give you some information that may help you understand this topic better.

You must know, in fact, that it is possible to see the battery status of the Bluetooth headphones directly on the smartphone or tablet, thanks to the native integration of this feature.

Starting with Android 8.1 and later and iOS 9 and later , mobile devices support the battery level identification feature of connected Bluetooth devices.

This means that you will not need to install apps to view the battery status of the Bluetooth headphones, also because often with the latter the result is not guaranteed, with the consequence of running into problems of stability of the wireless connection between the headphones and the smartphone / tablet.

But I must warn you: while this built-in feature is available on Android and iOS / iPadOS, there may be cases where you will still not be able to view the battery status of the Bluetooth headphones.

The main cause, in most cases, is to be attributed to the headphones themselves, which may not be equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 technology (or higher) or because, simply, the manufacturer has not integrated the BAS ( Battery Service ) service in the GATT profile. ( Generic Attribute Profile ) within the protocol of the device’s wireless connectivity interface (net of technical terms, this means that the headphones do not “tell” the smartphone or tablet what their charge status is).

Having said that, in the next chapters I will show you how to see the battery status of Bluetooth headphones on both Android and iPhone / iPad. As for Android, I will also point you to some third party apps that may help you on some occasions.

How to check battery of Bluetooth headphones on Android

How To Check Bluetooth Headphone Battery

If you want to know how to see the battery of Bluetooth headphones on Android , as I have already explained to you in the introductory chapter , you can do this easily, thanks to the presence of the specific functionality integrated in smartphones and tablets with Android 8.1 or later .

All you need to do is simply plug the headphones into your mobile device and you will see the headphones battery status icon at the top edge of the display, along with the other system icons.

Therefore, the first thing you need to do is to enable Bluetooth on your smartphone / tablet. To do this, start the Settings app (the gear icon on the home screen or in the app drawer), select the items Connection device> Bluetooth and move the lever next to the word Bluetooth to ON .

Once this is done, turn on the headphones and hold down the pairing button (refer to the instruction manual of the headphones to identify it), until the built-in LED starts flashing. At this point, on the device screen, in the previous Bluetooth section , you will be shown the name of the headphones .

Now, all you have to do is first press on the name of the headphones and then on the confirmation button that is shown to you in the message on the screen, in order to validate the connection.

If you have followed the instructions I have given you to the letter, in the area of the screen at the top you will see a battery status icon also flanked by the Bluetooth icon , indicating that it is the battery level status of the wireless device just connected.

If your smartphone or tablet is equipped with an Android version prior to 8.1 , then you have to rely on free third-party apps, such as BatON , to view its charge status.

As I anticipated in the introduction of this guide, unfortunately third-party apps do not often guarantee a satisfactory result. Take this into consideration in case you run into any problems.

To use this app, download it from the Play Store and perform the same procedure that I indicated in the previous paragraphs to pair the Bluetooth headphones to the smartphone / tablet. At this point, start the BatON app , grant permissions relating to access to the device features and, on the main screen, you will see the list of connected wireless devices, with their battery level.

Finally, I want to point out that, in case you need to use Apple’s AirPods with your Android smartphone or tablet, you can also use some apps created specifically for them.

In this regard, you can make use of the free AirDroid app which allows you to view, via the pop-up box or in the Android Notification Center, the battery status of both the earphones and the case. If you want to know more about this topic, I suggest you read my guide on how to use AirPods on Android .

Obviously, the headphones that you are going to connect to the Apple device must have the requirements I told you about in the introductory chapter . Otherwise, you will only see an icon that identifies the link, without showing you the battery level.

The first thing you need to do is pair the headphones to your iPhone / iPad: to do this, enable the Bluetooth interface by starting the iOS / iPadOS Settings app and moving the lever in the Bluetooth section to ON or pressing the button with the stylized B in the iOS Control Center.

At this point, activate the pairing in the Bluetooth headphones by pressing the pairing button . Once this is done, the name of the headphones will be displayed in the Bluetooth section of the Apple device: tap on it and confirm the connection.

If everything went well, you will see the headphones icon with the battery status next to it in the upper area of the iPhone / iPad display. As for the AirPods , however, all you have to do is open their case to view the pop-up box with the battery level of the headphones and the case itself on the iPhone / iPad display (the screen must not be turned off) .

At this point, if you want to see the battery percentage of the connected devices, you can also add the appropriate widget . How? I’ll explain it to you immediately. On the first page of the iOS / iPadOS home screen, swipe from left to right to view the Apple operating system widgets section .

Now, scroll down the screen and tap the Edit button . In the new section that is shown to you, press the icon (+) that you find next to the item Batteries and press the End button , at the top. Returning to the widget section from the Home screen, you will be able to view the battery percentage of the Bluetooth devices connected to the iPhone / iPad. Convenient, right?

How to check the battery of Bluetooth headphones from Mac

Even  MacOS allows you to display the charge status of the Bluetooth headset. Generally, just click on the speaker icon in the menu bar, top right, and check the indicator next to the name of the headphones. If there is no speaker icon in the menu bar, you can turn it on by going to System Preferences> Sound and checking the Show volume in menu bar box .

Alternatively, you can go to System Preferences (the gear icon located on the Dock bar  ), then to  Bluetooth and view the indicator with the charge status of the headphones next to the name of the headphones.
