How to allocate RAM to a certain application in Windows 10

You can add or subtract RAM to a certain application on a Windows 10 PC, despite the fact that Microsoft’s operating system manages the RAM correctly. We are going to teach you two methods to assign or subtract RAM to an application on your computer in less than 2 minutes.

Perhaps you had never thought that if an application on your PC had more RAM it would be better, because now you can try it. It should be said that, if you add more or remove a lot of RAM, you will not damage the PC, but that decision will interfere with the normal operation of the application.

Thus, you could experience sudden crashes and crashes such as closures and even make the application unusable until you restore the configuration.

So you can adjust the RAM through the Task Manager

Windows 10 does a good job of deciding how much RAM each program needs, but you can override that process and configure the RAM you want for each application by following this tutorial:

  • Press the Ctrl + Shift + Esckeys and when the Task Manager opens select More details.
  • You will now see a larger Task Manager box.
  • Locate the Detailstab and right-click on the application or program on which you want to change the RAM settings.
  • Look for the Set priorityoption and then select how much RAM you want.
  • In this case you would have to choose Above normal or Highand click on Change priority.

Change RAM allocation via application properties

This method is a bit more complex, since it requires some technical knowledge, for example, knowing how much RAM you can allocate to Photoshop or Google Chrome without screwing up:

  • Locate on your desktop the shortcut to the application for which you want to change the RAM allocation.
  • Right-click it and then select Properties.
  • Now go to the Direct Access taband at the end of the box that we mark in the following screenshot, copy and paste this text as is: –disk-cache-size = 1073741824
  • With this you are assigning 1GB of RAM, but as we say, you can assign it whatever you see fit, it is your decision.
  • Click OK and close everything.

If you do not dare with this method, stick with the first one that we have explained to you, so it will be the Windows 10 system itself that decides the amount of RAM for each application.

More information

You can try to put more RAM until you get the application to go as fast as you would like. Remember that fluency also depends on the amount of total RAM the computer has.
