1. Open the Lightroom Classic program.
2. Click “File,” and then select the “Catalog” option.
3. You will then need to move the old catalog.lrcat file into the program and then click “Open”.
4. In case the program prompts you, you should click on “Restart”. So that the current catalog can be closed and Lightroom Classic restarted.
5. In the Lightroom Catalog Updatedialog box , you can change the name of the updated catalog if you want.
6. Then Click Update, and it will automatically update your file from the previous version.

How can I properly delete a catalog in Lightroom?

Before deleting a catalog, you should be aware that once you delete the selected catalog, all work that has been done in Lightroom Classic that has not been saved will be deleted. Also, it’s important to make sure that the folder you want to delete only contains files from the catalog you want to delete.

1. Open the Lightroom program on your computer.
2. Click on the ‘Edit’ menu and select the ‘Catalog’ option, and a dialog box will open.
3. Then click on the ‘Show’ option that is displayed on the panel. Then the directory where the catalog is located will be opened.

Why can’t I open a catalog in Lightroom?

If trying to open a catalog in Lightroom Classic, the error occurs. You will be notified with the following message ‘The Lightroom catalog cannot be opened’ is because another application already has it open. This is common when a catalog is open by another application. Just as if you’ve already opened it in Lightroom Classic and didn’t realize it. To fix this error, perform the following procedure.

1. You will first need to close Lightroom Classic if it is open.
2. Browse to the folder where you saved the catalog file.
3. Then you must move the file “[catalog_name].lrcat.lock”, to the trash on your computer, either macOS or Windows. It is important to note that you should not delete or move the main [catalog_name].lrcat file.
4. You will then need to restart the Lightroom Classic program.
5. If the catalog opens successfully, you can empty the recycle bin on your computer.
