Fly is the first single from Hilary Duff’s second album. A self-titled album that celebrates his 17th birthday. The video for the first single is about “all those people who are afraid to open up and show what they have inside because they are afraid of what others will say,” says Duff. “This time I got very involved. I worked with the composers, explaining to them what was happening in my life and the songs I wanted to sing about. If I needed the songs to sound more like rock, stronger, I would tell them,” says Hilary Duff. He has worked with the same producers and songwriters from Metamorphosis: John Shanks (Come Clean) and Charlie Midnight (So Yesterday), and also contributing his own songs, a couple of them written in collaboration with his sister Haylie.

Songs like Shine (composed by Kara DioGuardi and Guy Chambers) and Underneath This Smile (composed by Dioguardi and Shanks). In the ironic Haters that Hilary wrote with her sister Haylie, Charlie Midnight and Marc Swersky, she faces, without naming her, one of her competitors in the magazines. On the grunge / rock theme Mr. James Dean, another song that Hilary wrote with her sister and Kevin Declue, she faces an overly conceited boyfriend. “James Dean was great, but this guy was a snoot,” he explains. Throughout the album, Hilary makes it very clear that what she wants is to rock …
