He was born in Medellín , Colombia on June 11 , 1924 .
Trajectory
He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the National University of Colombia in 1948 . He was co-founder of the Universidad de los Andes ( 1948 ), dean of the architecture faculty of the National University and is credited with the idea of creating the Colombian Architecture Biennial (1962).
From his degree thesis “Economic House for Employees”, he showed an interest in housing , a subject that was the axis of his professional work. He participated in the design team of the Ministry of Public Works MOP for the Reconstruction Plan of Tumaco (1948) with projects for standard housing, in the professional association DOMUS (1948 -1953) together with Guillermo Bermúdez and Francisco Pizano de Brigard, where he projects such as the Municipal House of Venadillo, Tolima (1948) and the house of Francisco Pizano (1950) stand out. During his long residence in Paris, he participated in the entire design process of the UNESCO building (1953-58), together with Marcel Breuer, Bernard Zehrfuss, Antonio and Pier Luigi Nervi. Upon his return to Colombia , he worked with Rogelio Salmonain projects such as the Free University ( 1961 ) and the Christian Housing Foundation – San Cristóbal (1964-1965). The Hacienda Santa Bárbara Shopping Center (1987) was one of his last projects, designed with Edgar Bueno, Rafael Obregón and Samuel Vieco.
Death
He died on February 8 , 2012 in Bogotá . [1]
