Hades – How to beat all the bosses?

We were treated to a rich year 2020 in the video game sector. We won’t get into the debate here, but there are plenty of games that are likely to be talked about when it comes to the annual awards. If there is one game that should be rewarded for me, it is Hades . SuperGiant Games’ superb rogue-lite offers players the chance to go from surprise to surprise. Despite everything, certain aspects of the game are constant such as the route to be taken in order to complete a run and the bosses that punctuate each region of this route. Arm yourself with your best weapons , we are going to introduce you precisely to the bosses of Hades .

List of bosses in brief

  • The Erinyes (Mégère or Tisiphone or Alecto), boss of Tartare;
  • Hydra of Lerna, boss of the Asphodel;
  • Theseus and Asterion, boss of the Élysée;
  • Hades, boss of the Styx and therefore of the game.

The bosses in detail

Hades is developed in such a way that you always cross the same four worlds. At the end of each of these areas, you will encounter one of the bosses listed below.

Boss of Tartare: Erinyes

During your first games, you will always face Mégère at the end of Tartarus . Subsequently, the Erinyes will call on his two sisters to help him. From that moment on, you will randomly face one of the three sisters.

Shrew

Mégère is therefore the first of the Eridyes that you will face by finishing the Tartarus.

Rather easy to anticipate, you should be able to quickly kill her without taking too much damage. She is endowed with several attacks, a first during which she concentrates, then rushes at you . If you hit her too much in melee, she will be able to wave her whip around her, dealing heavy damage . She is also able to summon random enemies .

After decreasing her health by 50%, Mega will go into her second form . It will then be faster and will also attack with beams doing area damage .

Generally speaking, if Megere is fast, you should kill her easily by attacking her as far as possible from a distance . Thus, you will avoid his lashes and have plenty of time to dash in order to avoid his other attacks. Generally speaking, when she summons enemies, focus on them first so that you never get overwhelmed .

Tisiphone

Tisiphone is much less talkative than her sister but is a much more dangerous fighter.

If his main attacks are the same as Megere, Tisiphone will add dangers. Indeed, when the latter attacks via its dash , it will send projectiles to the sides making the dodge more technical . In addition, Tisiphone will transform the room twice during the fight. After reaching a third of her health, she will make the arena much smaller. When you have reached the last third of her health points, she will create a very small arena in which it is difficult to avoid her attacks.

At the end of the fight, the battle can become particularly violent. Tisiphone will be able to create zone attacks that will cover almost the entire arena for which you will therefore have to be keen.

Like his first sister, it is imperative to avoid melee against Tisiphone . Try to save your ultimate and most devastating attacks for the last part in which avoiding his attacks becomes difficult. One of Athena’s powers to return projectiles is particularly useful against Tisiphone .

Alecto

Alecto is the third of the Erinyes. Her main attacks are the same as her sisters although Alecto is differentiated by the higher frequency of her AoE attacks .

In addition, Alecto will be able to shoot an arrow that must be avoided. It also has a “rage” bar which, when filled, makes it even faster and more dangerous.

Generally speaking, like his sisters, it is advisable to primarily attack Alecto from a distance and focus on dodging when his rage bar is full.

After a few games, therefore, the three sisters will take turns in random order (we accept if you have understood a pattern of appearance). It is also funny to note that Zagreus will try each time to guess which Erinyes he is facing just before entering the room. He will be disappointed if he is wrong and cheerful to have predicted well. The kind of details that make great rogue-like.

Asphodel Boss: Lernate Hydra

When you reach the last room of the Asphodel, you will meet the Hydra of Lerna . An impressive boss but ultimately not very dangerous.

At the start of the fight, you will face the Hydra alone. The latter will be able to carry out several attacks. If you attack her in melee, she will be able to smash her head against the ground, dealing heavy damage . From a distance, she will not hesitate to send you projectiles or even summon random enemies .

When you have reached two-thirds of its life , the Hydra will become invulnerable and will then summon three of its congeners . The latter will attack in the same way as the Hydra but have a much lower health bar. When you have destroyed its three acolytes, the Hydra will then be accessible again and will attack with the same attacks but improved (two hits on the ground instead of one, more projectiles).

Finally, when the last third of the Hydra’s life is reached, it will summon six hydras that you will have to destroy in the same way as in the previous point. This done, you will have to deal with the Hydra one last time (its ground attacks will be three in number and its projectiles and summons all the more numerous).

If your ranged damage is high, the Hydra shouldn’t be too much of a problem for you. By placing yourself away from it, you will have time to avoid its projectiles and concentrate on the damage to be inflicted on it . When she summons her fellow creatures, try to focus on them one after the other. The fight should go well!

Boss of the Élysée: Theseus and Asterion

At the end of the Élysée, you will be dealing with the boss representing, in my opinion,  the greatest danger in the game : the duo Theseus – Asterion . The duo are particularly dangerous because it is difficult to focus on the two characters in order to avoid their attacks.

Theseus offers two different attacks: a spiral spear strike doing damage all around him, and can throw his spear after aiming at Zagreus.

Asterion, meanwhile, favors melee. He will be able to chain a combo of two wide blows with the ax followed by an assault during which he will jump ax in hand on Zagreus. He can also  charge behind the hero , dealing a lot of damage to him if you are not able to make him run into a wall.

If both enemies improve their techniques when their health points drop below 50% (Asterion creating projectiles after his ax attacks when Theseus creates area attacks on a part of the arena), the danger can also come from combined attacks . Whether it’s the charge (Asterion calls Theseus, then throws it at Zagreus) or the shield hit (Theseus calls Asterion and causes him to charge into the shield, causing a powerful wave of damage in the arena), these attacks are to be avoided.

The goal during this fight will be to quickly defeat one of the two fighters in order to be able to be more peaceful thereafter. Asterion following you tirelessly, I advise you to focus on him first (while avoiding the spears that Theseus will send you) in order to make the fight easier.

Boss of the Styx: Hades

As you suspected when you first started the game, the last boss that will separate you from the surface is quite simply  Hades , Zagreus’ father and master of the underworld. Hades will have no remorse for his son and will attack him without restraint with his spear and his various techniques .

Thanks to his spear, Hades will try to skewer you by chaining two piercing attacks but also can reach part of the arena with a spinning attack . Hades can also launch a skull-shaped projectile . If the latter hits Zagreus it will stay on top of it for several seconds before dislodging, if the skull is not destroyed within 5 seconds it will detonate a wave of destruction in a wide radius across the arena.

By showing patience and concentration, you should overcome Hades quickly … Unfortunately, as you can imagine, it is not over yet. Hades, like many video game bosses, will then show you his second form .

During this second phase of the fight, you will understand all the power of the master of the underworld, the latter offering the same attacks but more deadly (the spinning attack is doubled, spinning attack following his piercing attack combo) as well as new techniques .

He can first summon Cerberus who will cause  a furious earthquake that fills the arena with falling rocks. Additionally, Hades will have the ability to summon some of the most powerful enemies in the game . Finally, he will be able to create vases that will regenerate him if they are not destroyed and will create a zone of damage when they are destroyed.
