At first, the game is quite simple and straightforward. You won’t have any skills, ranged weapons or abilities yet but don’t worry!
Eventually you will learn amazing skills and acquire better weapons and skills. This is just the calm before the storm that leads Jin to embrace the ways of the ghost and more.
Earn weapons and armor
If you don’t have any interesting weapons at first, don’t worry; Start completing side missions and equipment will come as they are perhaps the best ways to earn weapons and armor in the early stages of the game.
The “Tales of Tsushima” side quest is very important. You will learn the ways of the ghost i.e. sneak and stab in the back during this quest and you will also receive armor, weapons and outfits upon completion.

Explore the map
Ghost of Tsushima runs through an entire island, why not explore it? The beautiful island is full of highly inviting things and you should take the time to explore it as much as possible because the more you explore, the more skills you will discover!
There will be many “Question Marks” signs on the map. Better to start by exploring those marked places. As you explore, you’ll see Hot Springs, Fox Dens, Bamboo Strikes, and Shrines.
Almost all of these positions will improve your character in one way or another. Hot springs increase your health while shrines increase your charm which adds buffs to your skills. Likewise, Fox Dens increases the number of charm slots.
You’ll also have to face some ambushes along the way as you explore the island. Don’t evade these ambushes as they are opportunities to raise your legend. Increasing your legend will earn you techniques or skill points.
Choose your clothes wisely
During Act 1, you will collect various outfits and armor. You have to realize the true potential of each outfit and use it accordingly.
For example, you’ll have travel clothing that you should wear as you explore the map to find other collectibles and unlock secret locations.
Also, even if you may be a victim of favoritism and start sticking with a favorite dress, you should consider making situational swaps with your selected dress for something more suitable.
Since changing clothes is fast enough, you can change an outfit before a fight or a mid-fight to gain an advantage over your opponents.
