Selection

You have to know how to select the stallions in the palenque. A rooster that takes too long to beat his opponent is outmatched, either because the opponent is holding him at bay or because he is a poor cutter.

A good rooster recovers and wins after losing, and those who gain courage are considered good; but the class that wants to be perpetuated is that of those who are so good that they can win in any way. What you want in birds is effectiveness and efficiency to kill, so you have to breed for that purpose and select your roosters that have proven to be good for fighting. Let your brothers prove their ability to bounce back and win long fights, if necessary, but only breed with the rooster that is good enough to always stay in front.

Before saying if a rooster is a good fighter and can be used as a stallion, the kind of rooster he beat is considered.

Breeding

After selecting the rooster comes the most important part of breeding: the hen. His relationship with the rooster and the record of his father and brothers is the first thing to consider. Regarding the relationship, it is considered that the rooster is as inbred as the hen.

If the rooster is intensely inbred, then the hen must be from a not very close branch of the family. If the rooster is not very inbred, then he can mate with a hen quite close to him. There are never many benefits to breeding with brothers and sisters, but any other type of mating is fine. As the rooster was selected for its performance in the palenque and not for its appearance, it is possible that it has small physical defects.

You should never breed a rooster that has serious faults even if it is a good fighter, but you can if the faults are minor and can be corrected by the hen. If he is narrow and long-legged, a wide, short hen should be selected. This is known as the compensation rule. If the rooster is long, then select a short hen. What you should look for in the hen is conformation, power, vigor, and vitality. Generally loose meat and loose feather hens do not produce good chicks no matter how good the rooster was.

fine hens

Active and noisy hens are better than morning and afternoon are always scratching and looking for something. Hens that have a full and protruding crop. Active, nervous, cheerful, clucking roosters that are courteous to their hens, kind to humans and nervous when picked up are good for breeding. A hen cannot have too much nervous energy; those that protect their chickens with their lives are better and when a hen fights it is better that it be quick and active.

To improve a family, the most important thing is to make individual matings to find out from which hen the best roosters came. Two sisters never give exactly the same roosters. No good breeder alternates his stallions with hens, even if they are brothers. The hen is two-thirds (2/3) of the mating, which is why it is more important to know the mother of each chicken.

Feeding

The diet is mainly based on corn , eggs , meat and malanga . Normally corn is supplied around eleven or twelve noon, (approx. 2 ounces) in the afternoon they are given a snack (consists of a small ball of malanga bound with egg or meat), the malanga is parboiled and a Once cooked, it is linked with the yolk of the boiled egg.

With the yolk of the egg and a malanga you can feed up to five roosters, it is only a small amount, so protein and vitamins are supplied.

Each person decides the best food for their rooster, although it is recommended:

  • Cup of Corn of First Quality.
  • Cooked cornmeal mixed with Cooked Egg (boiled)
  • Meatballs for dogs that contain liver, or for cats that contain fish .
  • Vitamins and Electrolytes.
  • Cooked long grain rice mixed with cooked (boiled) egg yolk.
  • 1/4 part of a banana.
  • Half a cup of Fish cooked and mixed with lettuce in small pieces (Use any fish that is not high in fat).
  • A mixture containing protein as mentioned above. You can use “Protein Pellets” and Gamecock Plus ration 16% protein which contains a variety of grains and pellets.
  • Ball or ball (ground scratch, boiled eggs, Cuban or white bread, a little milk and a little water. Mix them).

Preparation

unprepared rooster

First it is trimmed and deburred, then it is roasted and it is waited for the crest, beard and ear to heal completely. The first job can be found or not, as the breeder wishes, he likes to see how they fight, how strong they are since they come from the bush. It is given about five minutes, then they are washed well, so that there is never any blood stuck to them, you should always wait a while before washing them so that the substance is not cut, this is always valid after working. Three days after working on it, they fly upwards for about 5 minutes.

Not only is the rooster’s feet important, but also the strength of its wings. The jobs are gradually increased in time up to 15 minutes, never again, that’s enough, in clandestinity they don’t have a combat time limit, it’s until one dies or loses kick. A fight can last minutes or up to 45 minutes, there are roosters and if an opponent touches him and his rooster is not well trained, he will pick it up lying down, he will lose the rooster. It takes 8 jobs to put them to fight, that is, 4 weeks, in that time it is decided that the rooster is at 75% of its care, it is done if it is a chicken to try it, but if it is a rooster already proven and good at fighting, no you get out until you have 14 or 15 jobs then you will be at 100%.

During the training, it is done in the first few minutes, running into another rooster called bump, it is the one that warms up the roosters, it must have its beak tied so that the one that is careful will not be damaged, then it continues running with the monkey or with a rag rooster On the fourth or fifth job he runs into another rooster of the same weight, to assess how things are going. If the rooster does not get tired after 15 minutes and mounts his legs well, then he will be fighting. The last job is short 4 to 5 minutes of rest the rooster between 7 to 10 days and for the vallin. In these 7 or 10 days of rest, they are only given sun for a while in the morning and again for the stall. The day of the fight they are not given food.

Cockfight

  • When he lies down, or turned upside down or rests on his legs or breast for a consecutive minute or when in the final minute to declare the fight the table is in the positions explained above, even if it is in the final second of the count, or in the seconds end of the count is killed or laid convincingly before the judge by his opponent, or is thrown, although his opponent is on top of him stepping on him like a chicken; he lost his fight.
  • When he is on the run and closes being punished by his opponent where the judge will sing Abandon! And if he doesn’t fight for a minute in a row, he will lose without needing to do any test with the stinger.
  • When he flies the fence three times and his opponent is badly wounded, but upright and in a fighting position, or he chases him and he flew all three times, although the judge will catch him three times and release him in front of his opponent, he will be declared the loser by abandonment without any evidence before the picón rooster. When the rooster blows the fence once or twice and continues fighting, he breaks the count, but the judge, if it occurs in the final minutes and sees signs of flight even though he is armed before his opponent, for having blown the fence, he has the power to catch the picón rooster and test the one that has flown the fence and if it does not bite in the three attempts made, he lost his fight.
  • When badly wounded he does not fight, that is, he does not bite or shoot, because as long as he bites he cannot be counted, if he does not, then the judge will declare aloud under observation if within a minute he does not fight his The opponent is considered harassed by the opponent and if he also does not fight within one minute after being harassed, he will be declared the loser. If one of the roosters is counted harassed and the rooster that is punishing his opponent abandons the fight, flies the fence, or moves away from his opponent and does not fight, the judge will look for the pigeon and will test the cocks. two and whoever does not bite will be the Loser.
  • When he is injured and falls dead or lying on the ground for a minute without being able to stand up, the judge will declare him the Loser.
  • When counted and announced by the judge Proof of Cowardice! before the sting and does not sting in any of the three attempts, he will be declared Loser.
  • When he throws a stir and falls upside down and does not stop for a minute, or in the final minute of the fight, or in the last seconds for the table, he falls upside down, even if it is in the last second of counting, he declares: Loser .
  • When a lying rooster launches a stir and kills its opponent, which the judge checks, even if it is still on the ground, if the other is dead he lost his fight by death to the other who is alive, it will never be declared by the table judge, The judge may, if he wishes, request the participation of the jury, before the official announcement of the decision of the fight and even if both are apparently dying on the ground, the judge will verify which of the two is breathing alive and that is the winner, because dead roosters neither win nor engage, that is to say, the judge does not need the rooster in this case because in his state, neither stings, because if it is evident that one of the two stings, that one wins.
  • When after the first minute of the fight, that the judge declares it valid if there is abandonment, one of the two roosters abandons the fight, closes and even sings the hen, or does not fight with his opponent who attacks him, the judge will declare him the loser. without the need to use the picón rooster.
  • When at the end of the time fixed for the fight, both roosters are on the ground and not in a fighting position, or both are fighting, or they are separated blind or badly wounded, or private and there is no combat, or both are evidently on the run and in the test of cowardice neither bites, or even if they are not on the run, because of the wounds neither bites, or one is wounded and cannot bite and the other fled does not bite either, or both fly over the fence and neither bites, or one is ill wounded and doesn’t bite and the other one is on the run and doesn’t either.
  • When in the final minute of the fight both are lying on the ground, or blind but open looking for each other, or both run away, or both land with their feet up and neither stands before the minute of the count, or one feet up and the other lying.
