At The Game Awards 2018, gamers were waiting for the announcement of the continuation of the spy action game Splinter Cell, but Ubisoft brought Far Cry: New Dawn to the ceremony.
According to the developers, Far Cry: New Dawn is not a new numbered part of the series, but an add-on to Far Cry 5, which swelled to the scale of a separate game.
Ubisoft did not hesitate to use the developments of the fifth part, but nevertheless made New Dawn distinctive, adding a new plot, locations, enemies and even mechanics. So there are things in the game that beginners and fans should know before purchasing.
Classic post-apocalypse

Spoiler alert: At the end of Far Cry 5, it turned out that the main villain Joseph Sid was right, and a nuclear bomb fell on Earth. The explosion affected all the inhabitants of the planet, including plants and water. The animals mutated, becoming stronger, weirder and more colorful. People, in turn, hid in bunkers and only 17 years later got to the surface and began to create a new world literally from scratch.
For several years, the survivors managed to equip a small fortress, in which a new generation grew up, the old left and the present flourished. Still, someone else’s happiness always has envious people who want to destroy everything.
In Far Cry: New Dawn, this evil was the twins Mickey and Lou, who inherited from their father the management of a gang of raiders. For them, the main currency in the new world has become the power with which they take whatever they want. If they cannot do this, then they simply destroy.

Yet the actions of the bandits are not ignored, and a special squad is sent to Hope County to help equip new settlements. Unfortunately, on the way to their destination, the squad encounters raiders who killed everyone except the captain and his assistant. The players will have to take control of the surviving “cap” and fight back the gang and its leaders.
Allies
Since Far Cry: New Dawn is a full-fledged sequel, fans of the fifth part should wait for the return of familiar characters. Most often, players will be in contact with members of the Rye family, who run the village of Hope called “Prosperity”. Fortunately, Nick Rye was that paranoid and built a bunker in which he hid his wife and child.

Gamers will also meet an aged pastor Jerome, who fights against raiders with the help of the word of God and a good old shotgun. It seems that neither the first nor the second let him down, because even after a nuclear explosion, Grandpa looks his best.
If you believe the trailers, then the main villain of Far Cry 5 Joseph Sid returns to the game. The madman was right, but he is not satisfied with the state of the new world. According to the actor who voices Yosef, the character will get out of the directed videos and will exist in the world of the game.

Ubisoft also left the already iconic character for the series – Herk. This insane big man seems to be on the heels of the players, experiencing the hottest and most deadly situations, including a nuclear explosion. So gamers will have another meeting with him.
Companions will help the main character in the dangerous world of Far Cry: New Dawn. The system remains the same – we find the character, carry out the assignment and get his support. A newcomer to the series is a sniper named Granny, who will be able to raise the hero in battle, shoot through the cover and quietly eliminate the enemy using a weapon with a silencer.

The second newcomer is the dog Timber, who will replace Boomer from Far Cry 5. According to the developers, there are two differences between the dogs: Timber is able to bring useful resources and get into the car. It’s funny, but I was waiting for the second feature the most. It was sad when the dog just ran after the car and could not get into the salon. Thank you Ubisoft.
Of the animals, the main character will also be helped by the boar Horace, who loves to fight. Its peculiarity is that in case of severe injury, it can rise on its own.
Pastor Jerome, who knows how to drive a motorcycle, throw Molotov cocktails and shoot holy cartridges from a shotgun, will also be able to help the player. Carmina Rai will provide support with dynamite and Herk with a rocket launcher. The main character will also be able to take Gina as a partner, who carries an endless supply of explosive cartridges.
Major gameplay innovations

The developers of Far Cry: New Dawn also worked on the gameplay. Now gamers will have to devote more time to gathering resources and creating their own weapons. Of course, no one bothers to kill the enemy with a knife and take his gun, but such weapons are usually weaker.
And here we get to the main innovation – “light RPG elements”. In Far Cry: New Dawn, the developers have added ranks for weapons and enemies, which range from common to epic and vary in colors – gray, blue, purple and gold. To kill a blue enemy, it is better to use a blue weapon, purple fighters need a purple weapon, and so on.
Fortunately, you do not have to walk around and look for weapons of the required level, because you can create it yourself in the shelter. To make a conditional second-level pistol, you just need to pump the workbench and find the necessary materials for manufacturing. The world of Far Cry: New Dawn is not divided into zones by level, as it was done in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, so at the beginning of the passage you can go where you look.

Players should also not forget about the main goal – the arrangement of the “Prosperity” base. The main character will not only have to run and carry out assignments from the Rai family, but also collect resources to improve the garage, first-aid post, workbench, and so on. This is all improved with the help of kerosene, which can be obtained by capturing raider outposts, but there are two nuances.
Having captured an enemy post, the player can loot it, having received more kerosene, but then the allies will leave, and the raiders will return with reinforcements. Of course, the developers do not prohibit hitting the post a second time, but only now it will be more difficult to do it.

Far Cry: New Dawn is available to play from February 15th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (via Uplay or Steam). The game for consoles from Sony and Microsoft will cost gamers 1,229 UAH for the basic version, and 1,549 UAH for the “deluxe” with bonuses. Players who plan to play New Dawn on PC will have to pay UAH 780 for the regular edition and UAH 825 for the special edition.
