Facebook profile backup: the steps to follow

Backing up your Facebook profile is useful in order not to lose the information and data published over the years on this social network. Here is a simple procedure to follow.

On Facebook we publish different contents every day. Not only that, in addition to the photos and videos that we can upload to our profile and share with our friends, we perform numerous other actions such as sending messages, commenting on other posts, replying in groups, liking photos and so on. Unfortunately, this material once online may not be available forever or may not be directly controllable by our will. In fact, it could happen that Facebook intends to change certain settings or remove entire parts of its site. To avoid the risk of losing what is done on this social network, a good idea could be to make a backup of the Facebook profile !

Saving the data through the backup of the Facebook account could also come in handy in other more plausible situations. For example, even before unsubscribing from Facebook it is good to make a backup of your account so as not to lose what you have published. Photos, videos and conversations are all things that belong to you and it would be a shame to lose them. So let’s see how to make a backup of the published data and information on Facebook.

How to backup to Facebook from a computer

To make a backup of the Facebook profile you have to open the drop-down menu located at the top right of the main bar, next to the question mark so to speak, then click on the item “Settings”.

At this point, in the sidebar that will appear on the left you have to click on the third item “Your information on Facebook” and then click on “Download your information”. A window will open that will let you select what you want in the backup.

Unfortunately, Facebook takes its time to send you all your data. In theory it could take hours or even days. Don’t worry though, you don’t have to stay connected or anything. When the backup is finished, Facebook will send you a link via email, by clicking on it you can download all your information and keep it on your PC.

How to backup to Facebook from mobile

As for the PC, the procedure to follow to download a copy of the requested data is similar also from a smartphone. The operations to be carried out are the following:

  • Log in to Facebook and click on the ☰ icon that appears at the top right or bottom left;
  • Click on Settings and privacy and then on Settings ;
  • Tap on Access your information ;
  • After selecting the data you want to download, tap Create file .
  • As from PC you will receive two emails and only after setting the password and clicking on Download will you receive the file.

Received the second email there are two ways to view the file, or by clicking directly on the link of the email or by going to the Facebook notifications.

Then in “available copies” tap on Download . Here you are prompted to enter your password, you should type the one you normally use to log into Facebook. Be careful because for security reasons the file is only available for a few days.

The file you download will include various information. In addition of course to the profile information, such as contact information, the interests indicated and the groups to which you belong, the posts on the wall and the contents published on the profile of friends will be downloaded. Plus, you’ll download photos, videos, notes, messages and comments on posts (both of your photos and those left by you under other content), as well as your friends list, events you’ve replied to and other information. Unfortunately it is not possible to select the individual data to download, but you can download the complete file.
