Eyelid edema

Eyelid edema . Its appearance is favored by the laxity of the palpebral tissues. Pathological increase of fluid in the eyelids. It can be secondary to allergic or infectious processes or trauma.

Causes that originate it

Generalized edema from decreased oncotic pressure (eg, nephrotic syndrome, liver cirrhosis) or increased hydrostatic pressure (heart failure).

Clinical forms

Traumatic. Characteristic of blunt object trauma; it is frequently associated with ecchymosis and palpebral hematomas ; It is also seen in burns (thermal or chemical) and in insect bites.

Treatment

  • Remove all foreign substances (in the case of burns), before imposing treatment.
  • Cold promotions of saline solution (the frequency will depend on the degree of the edema).
  • Antibiotic- anti- inflammatory ointments in burns.
  • Oral anti- inflammatories , associated with antihistamines in insect bites.

Constitutional

It occurs in heart and kidney conditions , which lack inflammatory signs.
