Epidermophyton floccosum

Epidermophyton floccosum . It is a genus of fungi that cause superficial and cutaneous mycoses, including E. Floccosum , the cause of Tinea Corporis (Tinea), Tinea Cruris, Tinea pedis (Athlete’s Foot), and Onychomycosis or Tinea Unguium, a fungal infection of the bed of the a.

Taxonomy

This species was first described in 1870 by Carl Otto Harz , who named it Acrothecium floccosum . Later in 1907, he was renamed Blastotrichum floccosum by Rabenhort in his book Krytpogamen Flora. Finally in 1923, it received its current scientific name Epidermophyton floccosum , at the hands of Ota and Langeron.

Description

The fungus has a medium growth rate, reaching maturity at 10 days. The colonies are usually granular, suede-like in texture, and greenish, yellowish, or brownish-yellow in color. The center of each colony rises slightly above the rest. After several weeks, the colonies become covered with sterile whitish mycelia.

Pathology

This species is the only pathogenic of the two species of the genus Epidermophyton. The fungus’s hosts are both human and animal, wild or domestic, [7] in which it causes the skin infections known as Tinea corporis. A study carried out in Korea between 1976 and 1997 on 900 patients affected by E. floccosum revealed that co-infections in the same person by E. floccosum and another dermatophyte are quite rare.

Species

The genus Epidermophyton has two unique species: E. Floccosum and E. Stockdaleae, the latter is known to be non-pathogenic, leaving E. Floccosum as the only anthropophilic species that causes infections in humans as it causes localized superficial mycoses in the skin, nails but never hair.

Importance of ICT’s

The media is the fourth power. Through them, public opinion is shaped and modified in the age of electronics. New technologies (ICTs), beyond democratizing their use, spreading culture, and offering information so that the planet’s inhabitants are informed, have the ability to numb and mobilize social groups through this mass communication in the that the different currents of opinion are concretized through highly visible media figures. That is why we attach great importance to those technologies that keep us in communication and above all allow us to obtain information.
