We continue with the main route of Elden Ring. In this part we reach the Altus Plateau, access Leyndell and face the fearsome Morgott.
The initial objective that you have marked on your agenda is to reach the Altus Plateau, lands of Leyndell, the Capital. To do this, you must go to the northern end of the Liurnia region and locate a kind of mining village that is built on the mountain and blocks your path. The place in question is called Despeñaruinas and on the following map you can see its exact location .
Despeñaruinas
As you can see, the design of this area forces you to use the multiple ladders that are scattered throughout the structure to ascend to the highest possible point. While going up, watch out for some enemies, and also when crossing the wooden bridges, as we don’t want to fall from that high. In any case, after using several stairs you will see a Grace next to a cave . You must enter, because it is a mine that you have to cross to continue climbing the mountain.
The mine is full of those pesky hammer-wielding enemies that take quite a few hits, so it’s up to you whether to use stealth to take out the ones who stand in your way… or run deep into the mine, where find the elevator you are looking for, as it will help you get back to the outside of the mountain and find another Grace .
In this section you have to be careful with the bats (the ones that sing are tougher than normal). When you come to a fork where you can go left or right, take the path to the left until you see some new stairs that will allow you to ascend to a kind of camp guarded by more bats. Next to it is a new elevator that will take you up to a Grace next to another cave . Get ready, because the time has come to fight a boss.
Boss | Makar Magma Dragon
Yes, it is a dragon, although it has always seemed more like a giant lizard to us. And it is capable of breathing fire, as you had already imagined. Despite everything: don’t be scared , because it’s hard, but remember that you have a Grace just before the fight and it’s a matter of time before you learn to memorize its movements.
Have you fought other dragons in Dark Souls? In that case, you already know the best way to approach the fight: fight close to his body, to the point of placing yourself next to his belly . We do this because, like all other dragons, if we stray too far we will give him the perfect reason to prepare a flare that can easily kill us from afar (if he does, try running to the side of the room at full speed). Killing him wasn’t just the key to moving forward; it is also the way to get the Magma Dragon Scale Sword .
Also, being so close to his body, any punch you throw will deal damage to him, no matter where it hits; legs, belly, arms, who cares? The point is to finish him off. If you see him raise his hands from him, the best thing you can do is stay close to him and raise your shield , since it is possible to block his hits. You can also wait for the right moment to roll dodge, but we think it’s safer to defend. At some point he will try to get away from you to charge you and leave a trail of fire . You can choose to block the charge and move away from the flames, although in this case it is easier to roll to the side and quickly find his back to hit him again.
Meseta Altus
As soon as you finish the boss, activate the Grace, go up the elevator and as soon as you reach the surface you will see another Grace. Congratulations, you have now reached the Altus Plateau, the region in which Leyndell, the Capital, is located . It’s a huge area, with tough enemies roaming the world where you can collect materials, hunt animals, or explore for dungeons. In any case, your objective consists of two steps. In the following image we mark them for you .
- Get close to that huge structure; It is the entrance that allows you to pass through the walls of Leyndell, although you cannot enter the city yet.
- Go to point 2 on the map, because there you will find the door through which you can access the city. The problem is that it is guarded by a really difficult boss.

Leyndell, the Capital
At last! You are inside the city and the good news never comes alone, because you have a Grace as soon as you enter that will serve as a fast travel point to the entire area. It is a huge place, where you will face each other with dozens of enemies in every corner and you will also find many objects. Remember that even if you manage to find the final boss and kill him, for now you can use fast travel and explore the city as many times as you want.
In any case, there is a way that makes it easier to know the direction you should take: visually scan the stage for giant roots like the one shown in the image above . As soon as you locate one and get on it, you’ll be on the right track. As you walk through them you will see a huge coliseum on the right; don’t go, because there is nothing interesting there at the moment. Instead, reach the end of the root until you go over a bridge where there is a giant gargoyle next to several turbaned enemies. Honestly, we do not recommend fighting right now, since the reward is nothing special and this enemy could give you more problems than the boss himself.
Drop down the root, just as if you had crossed the bridge and passed without alerting the gargoyle, and go inside the building at the other end. It’s time to face Morgott, King of Omens, but not before activating Grace… And fighting a previous boss!
Boss | Godfrey, First Lord of the Circle
Don’t worry: it’s not Godfrey. Or rather, it’s not really him, but a ghost of himself. Lucky for you, this lesser version of the enigmatic character only has two or three moves and you’ll soon get the lowdown on his attacks. Basically, his main hit is to crush you with his huge ax from him. Be careful because it covers a lot of distance; you can block with your shield, though it’s also a good idea to roll into his body when he launches his attack.
At some points in the fight, Godfrey will be able to cause earthquakes thanks to his powerful stomp . This hit deals area damage, as the entire area of the ground where you see raised stones will deal damage to you. In any case, it is much worse to be the victim of the stomp itself, than the earthquake itself. Focus on acting as if it were a physical attack; take advantage of the fact that before doing so, he raises his leg to be prepared and roll to the side at the moment of the stomp . Otherwise, luckily Godfrey doesn’t have too much health.
After defeating him, activate Grace as usual and look around the room: a root crosses the upper area, allowing you to access the balconies. Get on it, go outside and go to the small bridge that leads to that round building. It is the Queen’s Bedroom, there is a Grace and a few meters later, upstairs, who you know is waiting for you…

Enjoy the scenes, because they are very revealing and observe what is around you. You cannot access the tree, but you can activate a Grace that will help you return here in the future . Melina will appear and give you Rold’s Medallion , a key item needed to proceed. Right now you can’t do more, so we continue with the main route guide , in which we must head to the Forbidden Lands , a region where the Forge of Giants awaits us .
