Don’t you like Gmail? Here are the best alternatives

Gmail is the most used email service in the world today. But there are people who are not quite convinced or who want to have another option in case it ever fails. Well, we are going to show you some of the best alternatives out there right now.

There is no doubt that today email has become an essential tool both professionally and personally. Thousands of emails are sent daily, which shows that this service is an absolute necessity for any user.

Gmail made its appearance as a final version in 2009, succeeding in 2012 to unseat Outlook as the most used email service in the world . Gmail is currently estimated to have more than 1.7 billion users worldwide.

Even so, it may be that we need a good alternative to the Google service and that is why we must be very attentive to the options that we are going to show you below, some paid and others free.

Outlook

Obviously the first alternative has to be Outlook, since it was the one that lost its hegemony with Gmail. It is an extremely interesting option, since we combine Microsoft’s experience in this section with all the services that the company founded by Bill Gates has.

Outlook offers us 15 GB of storage space totally free. We can have a primary email address and up to 10 alias addresses. It allows us to send attachments of up to 25 MB , although we have the option to share much larger files by combining it with the OneDrive cloud service . It can be used on both Windows and Android, mac OS or iOS.

Proton Mail

It is a Swiss company that provides us with this email service, where we will register anonymously and the emails that we send will be completely encrypted , in addition to not leaving a record of the IP from which it is sent.

In Proton Mail they have different versions that we can choose.

  • Free : one user, 500 MB of storage, one address and a maximum of 150 messages per day.
  • Plus : one user, 5GB of storage, 5 different addresses, and 1,000 messages per day. All for 48 euros a year.
  • Professional : 1 to 5,000 users, 5 GB per user. 5 addresses per user and with unlimited messages. The price per user is 75 euros per year, being able to have two custom domains.
  • Visionary : maximum of 6 users, with 20 GB, 50 different addresses and unlimited messages. We can also have 10 custom domains, for 288 euros per year.

Posting

This is a payment service with which you can create an email account from 1 euro per month . All data is highly protected, as it is encrypted and also has active two-step identification.

Posteo is a provider of ecological mail, that is, to give you this service they use 100% “green” energy, since they use Greenpeace Energy . It has two drawbacks, such as not being in Spanish and that its interface is not as intuitive as many of its competition, including GMail itself.

Zoho Mail

Although this service is more oriented to companies than to private users, the truth is that we can use it without any problem and it is an excellent alternative to Gmail.

Zoho Mail has several versions to choose from, none is 100% free, but there is one that is very cheap.

  • Mail Lite : the cost is 0.9 euros per month and files of up to 250 MB can be sent, with a capacity of 5 GB per user, offering free applications for iOS and Android.
  • Mail Premium : It is worth 3.6 euros, we have 50 GB of capacity and we can send files of up to 1 GB, being able to have backup and restoration of email.

Then they have specific rates for companies where they offer software compatible with what each one needs.

Tutanota

While the previous option was more designed for companies, Tutanota is the opposite. It has a very interesting free variant and other paid ones that can be adapted to different needs.

  • Free : it is valid for a user, we have 1 GB of storage and the domain is Tutanota.
  • Premium : 12 euros per year and in exchange they offer us personalized domains, a single user and 5 aliases for the account.
  • Teams : they are 48 euros a year with 10 GB of storage, custom domains and 5 different aliases.

GMX Mail

It is a very popular service that has more than 20 million users spread all over the world, especially in Europe. It is free and its great advantage is that the internal storage space of 65 GB . The files that we can send are also going to be of considerable size, since their limit is 50 MB. In addition, emails will be end-to-end encrypted, enhancing security and we will have a Cloud and Office system at our disposal. GMX Mail has applications for both Android and iOS.

Kolab Now

The most interesting thing about Kolab Now is that we will not only get an email service, but also attached to it, we will have a package of online applications without advertising in the style of what we have in Google Docs. That is why it is an option to consider if we do not want to use Gmail.

  • Email only plan : 5 GB of storage, with end-to-end encryption and IMAP AND SMTP systems, for 4.60 euros per month.
  • Kolab Complete : 5 GB of storage, end-to-end encryption and ActiveSync, IMAP, SMTP, CalDAV and CardDAV systems for 9.12 euros per month.

Yahoo Mail

We can use this service on Windows, Android and iOS, being able to import contacts from social networks, having 1 TB of storage space and being able to send files of up to 2 GB in each email. It is completely free and is very reliable, although years ago it had the odd bug. The problem is the amount of advertising that we will have to endure to use this email service, a very good alternative to Gmail.

These are the best options we have right now if we don’t want to use the Mountain View-based company’s email service. Obviously it would be better if none were paid, but some are so interesting that we could even consider it.
