Destiny 2 – Can we change the server region on Steam?

Destiny 2 recently switched from the Battle.net launcher to Steam. Now it is obvious that different launchers have different characteristics. Although Destiny 2 players on PC surely have new features to explore now, they missed a notable and important feature that was available on Battle.net.

The Battle.net setup that allowed us to change server regions was very helpful. The setting allowed us to have friends from different regions and join them as we pleased. But, now that Destiny 2 is no longer on Battle.net. Can we change the region of the server?

Destiny 2 – Can we change the server region on Steam?

If you’re here just for a simple answer, sorry to say no, you can’t choose servers anymore. . You have to play in the assigned by the game. But if you want to know more, keep reading.

I think what Bungie did was merge the servers from different regions. So now you can find people from many regions during matchmaking. For example, if you’re in the EU, you might meet people from the US or Germany (at least that’s what the players are saying on the forums).

Another example, despite having Asian servers, Battle.net used to recommend America for people playing from India, where they would mostly find NA players. But now it seems that they have been moved to the Asian servers where they would find people from Singapore, Indonesia, the Middle East, etc.

I think the best way to check if the server you are playing on is good for you is not to check the signal bar next to your name in the game list. If the bar is full, you shouldn’t have a problem.

We tried to test the Download Region settings on Steam and see if that affects the game in any way or not. It seems that this is not the case. In case you want to know how to access those settings, here’s how to do it:

  • Launch Steam
  • Click on the Steamoption at the top left of the app
  • Click Settings
  • Select Downloads
  • There you will notice the Download Region option

Unfortunately, this is all we have regarding this topic as of now. We’re not sure if Bungie has future plans to add a server changer. But for now we have no option to do so.

We know that this guide may not seem very useful to many of you, but we had to post it as many players ask this question on all forums.
