Cars are a very important part of the game, since the map is quite large and it is very difficult to cross it on foot. The implementation of transport, even in the release state, is far from ideal, because many of the promised features never appeared: shooting on the move, opening side windows, handbrake, rear-view mirrors, and so on. However, there are already cars and have a very strong effect on gameplay, so in this guide we will tell you the basics of mechanized movement in DayZ Standalone .
Control
The movement here is traditional for such games. The WASD key combination is responsible for all maneuvers , where S is the brake, and the afterburner is Shift . But since we have a mechanical gearbox, we will have to change the gears with the Q and E keys , which go in ascending order: rear, neutral, first, second, third and fourth. To move the car from a place, it is enough to put the position of the lever in first or reverse gear.
But in order to gain speed as quickly as possible, it is not enough to immediately move it to the last position – you need to follow the tachometer needle (it should reach its maximum) and listen to the engine (it starts to rumble in a peculiar way), and then increase it by one division. And so – to the end. Remember that the steering wheel turns are very tight and therefore you need to turn the steering wheel in advance. This is especially true for large machines.

Types and functionality of transport
Cars spawn all over the map, but most often they can be found near settlements along the road. At the moment, there are only five types of transport: frame and body trucks, intercity bus, civil sedan and off-road jeep. Each of them has its own inventory, allowing you to transport a different number of items. Remember that you cannot manipulate the contents of the inventory while inside the car.
There are instruments on the dashboard inside the car, but so far only the tachometer, fuel gauge and speedometer are functional. You cannot open doors on the go – just close them. If you try to jump out on the move, you will immediately die. Walking corpses will not reach you inside the cabin, but it will not work to scatter them as a multi-ton colossus. Cars go through animals and zombies, and only players are exposed to serious damage. Even if they do not die, the clothes they wear will become extremely deplorable.

Repairs
The car consists of a wide variety of parts (wheels, doors, trunk, hood, and so on), while it can appear without any important elements, which will have to be searched for throughout the map or other cars cannibalized. To simply start the engine, you need a battery and a candle. Of course, you can ride with one wheel, but it will be extremely slow and tight with control. You can dismantle the stock using a balloon (wheel) and a wrench, but the assembly often does without the participation of tools.
If the parts are severely damaged, they fall off by themselves. It is easiest to equip the car on the right side of the hood, and to avoid bugs, it is recommended to do the assembly not through the window with the inventory, but manually, standing by the car. You can insert bulbs into headlights. An engine breakdown sound was added to the update – listen carefully to your mechanical friend for complaints about the condition.

Be sure to fill the car with enough fuel – about four blue cans for a full tank (gasoline can be obtained from a gas station). If you start a car with only one canister of oil splashing in the engine, or nothing at all, then it will break down and will not work. Remember to add water to the radiator or the engine will overheat.
Do not exceed the speed limit if you do not want to break it down. The tachometer will show if you exceed the speed – a red icon will appear. Use second gear and the Ctrl key to keep the car going at normal speed. But if you take care of the engine, then the car will not break down soon.
All collisions backfire not only for the vehicle, but also for the character. If the driver with acceleration crashed into a tree or fell from a great height, then most likely he will die. In general, the degree of damage corresponds to the force of the impact.
Each vehicle has its own durability – as soon as it is used up, the vehicle will be designated as destroyed (burnt body). After restarting the server, it will disappear and appear intact on the map in an arbitrary place. Under water, the car immediately stalls, so do not try to ford water bodies. There will be nothing corny to get the drowned equipment with.

Problems and solutions:
- Slips in place. Most likely the wheels are stuck in textures. This can be solved only by reinstalling the wheels, then log out and log back in. Sometimes changing the person at the helm helps.
- Brakes failed. The entire structure of the hydraulics is damaged, only restarting the server will save.
- Strong fuel consumption. Check if the gas tank is punctured. If so, look for another car.
- Rides slowly. The engine is dead, nothing can be done.
- You can’t see anything from the salon. The windshield is damaged. You cannot fix it, but you can break it completely, so as not to interfere.
- The headlights don’t shine. There can be two reasons – either the bulb on the headlight is knocked out, or all the wiring has burned out. In the first case, you can replace, in the second – to come to terms with the darkness.
The more carefully you treat your transport in post-apocalyptic conditions, the higher the chances that one day the car will save your life without giving up at the right time. Therefore, you should not waste its resource on trifles and periodically stretch your legs on the ground. It’s also the best way to avoid drawing too much attention.
