What Is CTPS;Work and Social Security Portfolio

CTPS stands for Work and Social Security Portfolio , a document that records the activities of the citizen as a worker. It is mandatory for all workers, whether in activities related to commerce, industry, agriculture, livestock or domestic.

The Work Card guarantees the citizen the main labor rights as unemployment insurance, Social Security benefits and the Fund of Guarantee of the Time of Service (FGTS).The issuance of the CTPS is done by the Regional Superintendence of Labor and Employment (SRTE) and in employee service stations.

Since 2008, the new Work Portfolio has been issued by computerized means, through a system that integrates all Brazilian workers. It is a blue document, more resistant than the previous one and with greater protection against fraud. The Foreign Citizen’s Work Portfolio in Brazil is now green. It can be requested by people aged 14 years and over, considering that the hiring of minors from 14 to 16 years should belong to the apprentice category. The CTPS was instituted by Decree No. 21,175, dated March 21, 1932, and later regulated by Decree 22.035, of October 29, 1932.
