Creating A Bootable Ubuntu USB Stick On Windows / Linux

Today I will tell you how to easily and quickly create a “bootable Ubuntu USB stick”. This method allows you to install both on a computer and on a laptop, it requires the least amount of time, the installation is much faster, and an image with the operating system is also recorded faster. To do this, you will need to download the image from the official Ubuntu website and you will also need a program to create a bootable USB flash drive Unetbootin. It was all in 2 words, now let’s take a closer look at how to create a bootable USB flash drive.

Step 1 – you need to find and download the operating system image

At the moment, there are a lot of distributions of the linux operating system on the Internet. Therefore, it will not be difficult for you to find it. And you won’t have to pay for downloading images. All images are provided free of charge, and I advise you to download the image from the official Linux site. If you could not find or, for some reason, download the image, see “Step 4”.

Step 2 is probably the easiest, because if you choose this method, then nothing will work without a flash drive.

To create a bootable Linux stick, you must have a USB stick with a minimum size of 1 GB.

Step 3 – installing the program to create a USB flash drive

The Unetbootin program will help us here, although there are quite a few of them, but we will use it. This program supports the following operating systems: Windows, Linux, Mac OS. For example, if Windows is installed on your computer, you need to select the distribution kit for this particular operating system.

The main advantage of this program is that there is no need to install it. After the download is complete, the program starts automatically without installation. Owners of the operating system Windows 7, 8, you must run the program as “administrator”.

If you skipped “Step 1” and did not download, or could not find the Linux distribution, do not worry, when you start the program in place of Distribution, you can choose any Linux OS and the program will do everything for you. If the image has been downloaded, then you need to check the “Disk image” box, indicate that it is an “ISO image” and select an image from a local disk, after clicking on “…”

If your flash drive has a lot of free space, then it is recommended to allocate space for storing files – 100MB is enough.

Make sure that the file system of the flash drive is Fat32, and then click “OK”. If one USB flash drive is inserted into the computer, the program will automatically detect it.

The screenshot below shows everything that I described above.

After completing the “Burn” you need to restart your computer and start the installation.

PS Do not forget to set the boot from the USB stick in the Bios settings.
