Chromophobia or Cromatofobia . It is defined as a persistent, abnormal and unwarranted fear of colors .
Chromophobia
It can be in all colors, where there is fear of a contamination of color in the essence of objects (which usually occurs among artists). But it is more common for it to manifest itself towards specific colors, such as leukophobia ( white color ) or xanthophobia ( yellow ). The latter is typical of superstitious people, and actors, where the color yellow is associated with misfortune and failure.
The sick can fear all colors or only some.
Colors are for many people a source of beauty and joy. However, for those who suffer from this phobia they represent suffering. Like many other phobias, chromatophobia is triggered by the unconscious association of a color with a traumatic event, the result of which is the phobia as a defense mechanism. People can experience the phobia in different degrees, as well as they can fear all colors or one in particular.
The phobias for the different colors are:
- cyanophobia (fear of the color blue )
- xanthophobia (fear of yellow)
- erythrophobia (fear of red )
- chlorophobia (fear of green )
- Chrysophobia (fear of orange )
