Blockchain will protect our personal data online

We explain what blockchain technology is and how it will help relieve us of the control of Internet corporations, providing users with more and more opportunities online.

What is the Internet now? It is a network of servers, each of which has its own address, and all this is connected by a network and, apparently, freedom, centralized.

But here is the idea of decentralization with the development of blockchain technology. And what will change? And almost everything.

This will be a secure space where rules will be set by ordinary users, not corporations.

Corporations now own our passwords on social networks, messages in our chats and everything we publish on the Internet.

They can seize our assets, spy on us, ban us, and sell our top secrets to anyone who simply offers a higher price.

And most importantly – we do not decide what to publish on the Internet.

Is this really my domain?

The entire domain name system (DNS) is controlled by corporations, not the users who buy them. Domain names are often taken from owners at the request of governments and other parties.

So France.com was confiscated from the person who owned it since 1994, simply because France decided that the government should be the owner of the domain.

And owners of .com domains around the world are often surprised when they receive a request from the US government to give the domain name to its real owner – Verisign (an American company that owns the rights to the .com domain).

Libyan authorities have arrested vb.ly for violating Islamic law, although the site and its owner were not outside the country. Any page in the world with the .ly domain is now subject to removal at the request of the Libyan government.

Once again, the Internet is now fully centralized, that is, controlled by several IT giants: Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, and services owned by these corporations.

Decentralization is a new era in the evolution of the World Wide Web. It is a return to the original purpose and values of the Internet, where independence and creativity prevailed over commercial interests.

The main thing on the Internet of the future is the user

When moving to a decentralized Internet, users, not companies, will control their digital assets and data. This will be possible thanks to blockchain networks.

Such as Ethereum, Filecoin and others. By 2030, if they develop successfully, huge changes await the Internet, which will increase the level of freedom of the World Wide Web.

We may have a user-managed global network, an Internet in which freedom is a priority.

What will the Internet look like in 2030?

1Responsibility on users

Sites on the Internet of the future will be controlled by communities, not by one person or company.

People will determine which articles are published and what content is covered. For example, this is how Wikipedia works all over the world.

It grows, regulates and self-improves thanks to the user community.

Similarly, in the Web 3.0 era, we will visit popular news sites that are not controlled by any particular person or group.

The headlines will be determined by the users.

People will even decide whether the article is true or overly biased.

2Priority for user experience

Instead of storing data on social networks, users will keep information in decentralized networks and carry their data with them everywhere on the Internet.

For example, I go to a social network where it is convenient to search for information about my friends.

Then I switch to another social network, and my contacts, messages, comments and other information follow me as I navigate various social networks.

Each user has only one username, not different for each social network. For example, I want to register on a new social network.

I do not need to fill in my data again, because my contacts and data come with me immediately. I’m just entering the new system for the first time and everything works.

And most importantly, if I share data with applications – I get paid for it. Then I agree to watch the commercial and get paid for it again.

That is, I receive a stable income from one of the most important assets – information about me on the Internet. There will always be new applications that give me a better user experience, and it contains the highest possible price for my data and my attention.

3People make a profit, not (only) the company

By 2030, the transition from a corporate-controlled Internet to a user-controlled Internet will make everyone on the planet richer.

It will be easier for billions of people to start their own business or invest in their education.

Users and their data will exist on the Internet without restrictions.

Just as physical property rights ushered in the industrial revolution, so digital property rights will trigger the digital industrial revolution.

We will receive tens of thousands of dollars from digital assets. 50% of the wealth will be in digital assets, not physical ones. The digital economy will flourish, and users will benefit most from it.

At Unstoppable Domains, we are creating a case of Internet decentralization around the world. A year and a half ago, in addition to the office in San Francisco, we opened another office in Kyiv.

And today I am glad that together with talented Ukrainian developers we are bringing closer the true freedom of the Internet. If this is our future, it will only make us all better
