Considering one of the largest in the world in low-temperature physics, he is a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, of the Royal British Society, of the American Physics Society, among other institutions.
He shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in the 2003 with Alexei Abrikosov and Vitaly Ginzburg for his pioneering contributions to the theory of superconductors and superfluid.
