5 Facts About Anthony J. Leggett

Anthony James Leggett . British physicist. He was born in London . He received his doctorate in physics from the University of Oxford in 1964 . He has worked since 1983 in the Physics department of the University of Illionis in Urbana-Ahampaing, United States , now he has dual British-American nationality.

In the 70s, Leggette comes to formulate his theory about the ordering of the atoms of the helium in the superfluid state, based on the most recent formulations reordering of these in situations of chaos or turbulence, yet to be explored.

Superfluidity is the state of matter in which there is a total absence of viscosity , a phenomenon that occurs in liquid helium at very low temperatures . Considering one of the largest in the world in low-temperature physics, he is a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, of the Royal British Society, of the American Physics Society, among other institutions.

He shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in the 2003 with Alexei Abrikosov and Vitaly Ginzburg for his pioneering contributions to the theory of superconductors and superfluid.
