Other reviews: PS4

Days Gone came exclusively to PlayStation 4 consoles on April 25, 2019 (later PS5 with backward compatibility) to offer us an entertaining open-world adventure with an attractive setting and some interesting ideas that were somewhat clouded by intelligence at the time. artificial that left a lot to be desired or some bugs and technical problems that weighed down the work in its beginnings and that little by little were fixed through patches that were also accompanied by new content in the form of New Game + or Survival mode.

A little more than two years later Days Gone arrives today on PC after Sony has opened up to be publishing some of its exclusive games in compatible with an adaptation that this time meets the needs of the players of this platform and also with what we ask of a game at a graphical level in 2021, exploiting them to the fullest to take advantage of their fantastic open world better than ever.

A technical adaptation that is very worthwhile

As you can expect, we are not going to talk too much about the plot of Days Gone , what the game consists of or other details that we already covered in the analysis for PlayStation 4 that you can read here . This version for PC comes with most of the technical errors of severity corrected and also (at least for the one who writes you) with a somewhat more polished AI , although of course it continues to preserve the errors at the narrative level and that artificial duration of the one that we already talked about with the original.

However, in this text we are going to focus on the technical section of Days Gone that reaches our computers better than ever visually with obvious improvements in the textures that make us face a video game at the technical level of what A title is expected in the middle of 2021, improvements to which are also added a greater drawing distance, dynamic lighting, chromatic aberration and, of course, support for HDR on PC.

On a technical level, the visual improvements of ‘Days Gone’ are evident in textures, lighting, drawing distance …

We also find a lot of graphic and sound options to customize the experience as we want, allowing us, for example, to adjust the horizontal field of view (FOV), adjust the resolution ( Days Gone for PC is compatible with ultra-wide monitors), the frequency update to adapt it to our monitor (which in our case is 144 Hz), the possibility of playing at more than 60 fps without any limit in the rate of images per second, different default graphic quality options to adapt to all types of computers and other options to adjust the experience at the technical level.

As we told you in our first impressions, something that caught us a lot is that next to the visual options of the game we find a box at the top right in which we can see a forecast of the use of our graph that will require those adjustments or the rate of images per second. It is a somewhat optimistic forecast since it tends to calculate the maximums, but it is a very interesting guidance tool to adjust our settings in a general way without accessing the game and then making small changes when we are already in the game.

Here we leave you with all the graphic options available in Days Gone for PC:

Great PC performance with very fast loading times

If we talk about the performance of the game, we have tested Days Gone with a computer equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics , Ryzen 9 5900X processor, 32GB of RAM, SSD storage and Windows 10. As you can see, it is a PC that far exceeds the recommended requirements of Days Gone that you can read here . To do the test we have played at different resolutions and always with the default quality Very Highthrowing us some fps average results somewhat higher than those we saw during our first hours that corresponded to the initial part of the game, in addition to the fact that the arrival of hordes has not affected too much the behavior of the game. You have the results here below:

  • 1080p:180 fps
  • 1440p:145 fps
  • 4K:80 fps

In addition, we have also measured the loading time of Days Gone on PC with an M.2 SSD. From when we press the Continue button on the initial screen, the game takes 12.8 seconds to start, while in fast trips or “resurrections” after death the load is 4.9 seconds , very fast loading times.

The performance on our computer has been very good even in the most stressful gaming situations.

As for possible bugs or errors, we have not seen bugs that are worth mentioning beyond some texture that unrealistically crosses our character on some occasion, a minimal error that does not affect our gaming experience at all.

To finish with the technical part, what we would have liked is that Days Gone had, above all, with DLSS 2.0 , NVIDIA’s texture smoothing and rescaling technology that is giving such good results in terms of quality and performance to others. videogames and that, for the moment, will not be present in the Bend Studio work. For its part, the absence of ray tracing (although we would like the game to have ray tracing in real time to further improve its technical section if possible) seems more anecdotal to us, especially if we take into account the work that would take to integrate this technology In this play.

A well-adapted control for all types of gamers and a photo mode with improved resolution

Another point that we always like to mention in the analysis of PC versions of games that have previously been released on the console is the control, the adaptation to the keyboard and the mouse, which in the case of Days Gone is good , with quite classic controls and intuitive that will allow us to enjoy a good experience as well as some shooting mechanics that are well taken to the mouse as well.

Luckily, the game also allows us to tweak all kinds of settings to personalize our experience with the control , being able to change the keys to our liking, adjust the sensitivity of the mouse or play with a controller if we want, being compatible both the DualShock 4 and the DualSense as third-party controllers like the Xbox one.

Before proceeding to the conclusions, we also want to mention that Days Gone for PC has a Photo Mode with a new feature to be able to take snapshots at a higher resolution in addition to commenting that the title has achievements and that no, it cannot be transferred our save file from PS4 or PS5 to PC.

Bend Studio and PlayStation breathe new life into ‘Days Gone’ with a PC version that delivers in every way.

A new life for Days Gone

Days Gone receives a new life on PC , a great opportunity for millions of new players to discover the virtues of this sandbox . The adaptation to compatible is carried out with care, providing computer players with great versatility to adjust the experience to their tastes and possibilities both at a technical and control level, as well as incorporating improvements at the graphic level that make this adventure with touches of survival In a post-apocalyptic open world it looks better than ever, with a practically flawless technical performance at least on our team.
