A Beginner’s Guide to Dying Light: Bad Blood

Basic information on gameplay, game basics, weapons and equipment in Dying Light: Bad Blood

Dying Light: Bad Blood is a multiplayer spin-off of the original action series in which players find themselves mired in a zombie apocalypse. By the way, in this regard, “Bad Blood” did not leave the origins of the franchise! Let’s try to figure out what the game is at the moment, what are the available functions, game modes, weapons and tricks.

Main menu

We’ll start with a small one – the main menu. The first thing I would like to draw your attention to is that at the time of this writing, the Russian-language localization was not available, so we will indicate many terms as they are written in the original.

Pay attention to the bottom of the screen . There is a bar of experience with an indication of the current level of your account. It doesn’t really affect anything, except that in the future the developers will use it to form matches with the participation of approximately equal rivals. When you get a new level, you will also unlock one of the chests, from which items of equipment drop when opened.

To the right is the amount of game currency available to you – Blood Bucks and Scars. Treat the former as a premium currency that can be bought with real money. However, this is completely optional. To the right are icons indicating whether your experience and scar boosters are working, then there is a “gear” that allows you to go to the game settings, and an exit button.

Now, on the items of the main menu:

  • PLAY– go to the game
  • REWARDS– go to the caches menu, where you can open them and receive a bonus reward
  • SHOP– in-game store
  • PROFILE– information on your account (an extended version of the data that you see at the bottom of the screen) indicating the next reward for a new character level
  • CUSTOMIZATION– a menu where you can customize the appearance of the hero (for now, clothes do not affect your skills and characteristics in battle)

Note . Caches (chests) can be earned for completing matches in one of the game modes, as well as bought for bloody bucks.

In a nutshell, a store is designed for several things:

  • buying clothes for character customization;
  • buying a weapon to customize a character (for example, if you pick up an ax during the game, but buy and apply a new skin for it, then this is how it will look on you – nothing more);

Golden Bat Skin

  • buying avatars for the current account;
  • purchase of boosts of coins and experience;
  • getting chests – regular, epic and legendary for bloody bucks;
  • exchange of bloody bucks for scars;
  • buying bloody bucks for real money.

Exchange bloody bucks for coins

Thus, in the first hours of the game, you can completely forget about it.

Game modes

Click on the PLAY line to go to the list of game modes. TUTORIAL is available here , while instead of playing, you will watch a video and listen to what the announcer tells you about. The other two modes are CASUAL and NORMAL . In the first case, you play only with your friends, set up the game, get the minimum reward, while the result of such fights does not affect your account statistics in any way (experience is not gained).

However, this is a very important mode! Here you can try all your knowledge, learn mechanics, try to survive exclusively against zombies. You don’t have to miss your friends! You can start the match yourself by holding down the TAB key . On the other hand, the helicopter will arrive after 14 minutes, so after this time it is advisable to pump the character to the fifth level so that he can escape from the location by helicopter (do not confuse the character level and the account level !!!).

NORMAL is a regular PvP mode in which you fight on the same Slums map, but this time you are confronted by 11 more people (12 players in total). And we’ll talk more about this mode below.

PvP in Dying Light: Bad Blood

So, when you start normal or casual mode, you find yourself in the “intermediate game arena”. The territory is small, all other players who have joined the session will get here. And this will continue until a total of 12 people have gathered (for NORMAL ) or you start the game by holding TAB (for CASUAL ).

But let’s talk about the PvP mode anyway! At an intermediate location, you can collect any available weapon and all items that are also searched for in the game. Then you can try them out by attacking the gamers who have joined the match. It is not at all necessary to kill them, and if you get killed, it will not affect the main game in any way.

In the left corner of the screen, you can see a list of three gamers who have more advanced characters in the current game. It varies depending on who collected the samples and how many.

Boot menu

After a while, another download will occur and the game will begin! But the main goal is set by each player separately! But one way or another, there must be a gamer who can kill several clusters of zombies, collect samples and pump his character to the fifth level. As soon as this happens, a helicopter will appear in the Slums. A countdown begins, at the end of which the player who reaches the helicopter will be evacuated.

Winner

It is absolutely not necessary to pump your character to the fifth level ! You can also escape by helicopter, but for this you have to go to the evacuation zone and kill the character “through whose fault” the turntable arrived. The rest of the surviving gamers will also run here.

Samples are obtained from slime hives, which are small, medium, and large . Accordingly, with these dimensions, the hives will be guarded by different types of zombies. For example, small hives are usually protected by four or five simple dead and one acid one, mostly located on some kind of hill and trying to spit on you. Medium hives can be guarded by three or four runners, and large hives can be guarded the same way as small ones, but only to this group of zombies is added some big guy with a huge hammer.

Small hive with samples

You don’t have to kill all the zombies around the hive ! You can deal with some of them, lure the big guy away, then quickly run up to the heap and collect samples. As the character level increases, more experience points will be required! If to achieve the first it is enough to simply collect samples from any hive, then to obtain the second one will need about 500 experience points, the third – 1000, and so on. Values are approximate!

Each time a character gains a new level, his stamina and health are restored . In addition, the new character level not only brings him closer to evacuation by helicopter (helicopter call), but also enhances various parameters – maximum health and endurance reserves, running speed, mobility, and so on.

Also, “armor” drops out of larger zombies . You can see an additional bar under the health bar. A “shield” is depicted next to it. So this strip will be filled in accordance with the armor you found, falling out of the enemies. The same armor drops from marauders.

Dropped “armor”

By the way about them. On the minimap, you can see two different markings – the white polygons indicate the locations of the zombie hives where you are taking samples, and the blue ones indicate the equipment dropped from the plane . It doesn’t appear right away, but it’s the only way to get a firearm!

Dropped cargo with firearms

Chest

Go to such a place and kill three marauders using melee weapons. Keep in mind that these opponents are good at dodging and hitting back with their feet, so it won’t be easy to fight them. They drop armor, but most importantly, there is a blue chest next to the smoking fire. In it lies a firearm with several cartridges !

More about weapons

How to get firearms is described above. As for melee weapons, they are scattered throughout the Slums. Look for weapons and various items of equipment inside cabinets, cabinets, on tables, in buildings, and very rarely outside. There are a total of four weapon slots and four equipment slots. To switch between weapons, use the keys “1”, “2”, “3”, “4” or mouse wheel, items of equipment – Z and the X .

Important ! The controls discussed in this article correspond to the default settings. However, all of them can be changed by you personally in the game settings.

To aim with a firearm, click on the mouse wheel . In this case, there is a switch from a distant view to a close one. Holding the mouse wheel is optional! Pressing it again will return you to the original view.

To use any item, you must right click . The item that is currently selected from the four available slots will be used. For example, if a grenade is selected, then you throw it, painkillers – apply on yourself (in this case, you need to delay the same as in the case of a first aid kit), upgrade – improve the current weapon (if it is chosen instead of fists).

In this case, by clicking on RMB, you throw a grenade

Yes, you can fight with your fists, but this should only be done as a last resort. It was written above about upgrades: you can find them on a par with other items, and it will be possible to either pick up an upgrade and thereby occupy a slot of equipment, or immediately apply it to the current weapon (key G), if it has not been improved yet. It is clear that, ideally, it is desirable to immediately use the improvement without taking up precious cells.

There are several types of upgrades – increasing damage, additionally damaging the enemy with ice, fire or electricity . Which one to use is up to you.

Melee weapons can also be used as thrown weapons . To do this, just hold down LMB and click RMB. Aim at the zombie and perform such an attack to inflict considerable damage on him. In the future, you can pick up weapons. You can also regain the arrows fired at the zombies, but first you have to kill the monster.

Available equipment:

  • Painkillers and first aid kits– the former restore some of the health points, but use quickly, the latter – the whole scale, but they take time to apply (thus, painkillers will be ideal when used during combat)
  • Throwing knives– why throw the main weapon if there are knives specially designed for this
  • Molotov grenades and cocktails– throw at opponents (the first explode after a few seconds, the second – immediately, while setting the target on fire)
  • Land mines– explode when the enemy approaches (find a cluster of zombies, throw a mine at them and run away; note that the warhead thrown by you will explode even if your character approaches it)
  • Upgrades– mentioned above
  • Skins– yes, they can drop right in battle

Advice

The game has very inconvenient controls, so if you want, you can customize it for yourself. For now, here are a few important keys you should know about:

  • The C key allows you to duck.
  • Shift is used for running.
  • The E key is to kick in front of you.
  • The F key – not only to interact with something, but also when there is no interactive object in front of the hero – to look back.
  • The Q key is to parry enemy attacks, which allows you to stun the enemy (master this technique and real gamers will just run away from you).
  • Z and X – toggle between available equipment.
  • V is another way to consistently swap primary weapons.

And a few more recommendations:

  • Use the features of the landscape and various objects, as they will allow you to defeat most of your opponents without taking damage.

We hid in the bus and the zombies entered one at a time, while the poisonous “dead” from above could not oppose anything to our character

  • Hit enemies by jumping on top of them – this is a special technique that is very important in the game.
  • In the game, you can find orange weapons – the most powerful of all (rare, but will give a huge advantage in battle).
  • Listen carefully to your surroundings, which will allow you to detect an enemy running nearby.
  • Do not ignore the possibility of using a Molotov cocktail, mines and grenades, be sure to upgrade your weapon.
  • When you approach the lying weapon, you can see information about what it is in relation to the weapon in the hands of your character – bad (red inscription), relatively equal (white inscription with an “equal” sign), best (orange inscription).
  • At the beginning of the game, as soon as you find the first weapon, we recommend collecting several samples in small hives.
  • Near large hives, you can look for more pumped opponents who you can catch by surprise.
