The 4 most important eSports on mobile

Many of those who approach the world of eSports for the first time are convinced that competitive video games are closely related to PC and console. In reality, a rapidly growing phenomenon in the videogame sector are eSports on mobile . In fact, there are many video game companies that are aiming to expand the eSports market also on mobile. Some have simply released the smartphone version of their game already on PC, while others have created new games with the aim of bringing the competition to mobile.

In fact, for some years now, official tournaments and competitions have been regularly held for many games. The world’s leading esports organizations have their own professional teams in various games and compete regularly in official leagues. Although there are now many, let’s see which are the 4 most important eSports on mobile.

Clash Royale

Clash Royale is a strategic video game published by Supercell a Finnish video game company. The game is the spin-off of the most played mobile video game ever that made the Finnish house famous: Clash of Clans . In a short time Clash Royale has had a great success, thanks above all to the fame of its predecessor. The video game is part of the real-time strategy genre , players collect cards of different rarity and effectiveness all inspired by the characters of the world of Clash of Clans.

In terms of eSports competitions, Clash Royale, especially thanks to its simplicity , immediately had a considerable volume of play. The games do not last long and compared to Clash of Clans they have a random variable that appeals to the eSports public. One year after its release, the Clash Royale League has been made official , an official team competition promoted by Supercell itself and which on Twitch has beaten all viewing records for a game on mobile. The Finnish house did not stop there and recently released  Brawl Stars  an innovative game completely oriented towards eSports.

PUBG mobile

One of the most competitive games in the eSports scenario on Android and iOS is undoubtedly PUBG mobile. The game comes from Player Unknown Battleground (PUBG)  the FPS  from Tencent, a Chinese video game company. PUBG is recognized as the main rival of Fortnite with which it represents the category of Battle Royale in the world As in the PC version, in PUBG mobile the player lands at the start of the game on an island along with 99 other players. The last one standing will be declared the winner. On the island, which features different scenarios from forests to deserts, players will be able to collect and use different types of weapons and armor.

The game, particularly in the team variant, is one of the main eSports currently available on mobile. A $ 140,000 prize pool tournament to be held in India was announced this year . Further tournaments will be announced in the course of the year confirming the willingness to continue on this path. It must be said that its counterpart on PC has suffered a significant drop in users following the release of Fortnite and the recent Apex Legends. On the contrary, however, PUBG mobile remains the most played eSports of its kind on this type of devices.

Hearthstone

Another of the eSports on mobile born from the existing PC version is  Hearthstone,  the Blizzard card game. The game takes its cue from the universe of World of Warcraft, the MMO icon of the genre published by the American video game house. Hearthstone was able to take advantage of its simplicity to avoid dividing PC and mobile players. In fact, the mobile version is not a separate game but is exactly the same as the PC version . The player has a deck of 30 cards and 9 heroes to choose from, each with their own characteristics. The game continues until the life total of one of the two players drops to 0, the cards can be used using so-called mana crystals.

The big advantage that Hearthstone immediately had on mobile was its full compatibility with the PC version. In this sense, the Hearthstone eSports market is a whole between the PC and mobile versions. Official Blizzard tournaments have seen staggering numbers in the past, making Hearthstone the most popular eSports card game of recent years. On PC the game has seen a drastic drop in users due to the new alternatives, first of all the release of  Magic Arena.  However, Hearthstone remains one of the most followed games on mobile , mainly due to the lack of smartphone versions of the other main games.

Mobile Legends

A title that today continues to be discussed a lot despite already two years have passed since its release is without a doubt Mobile Legends . The game is a  MOBA  developed by the Chinese company Montoon Technology. In defining Mobile Legends, it is easy to say “it is the mobile version of  League of Legends ” and in fact in this regard recently Riot Games won the lawsuit brought against the Chinese companyfor copying his video game. Beyond the legal aspects, however, Mobile Legends was the first MOBA to land on a smartphone, finding a crazy success. The game involves a 5v5 match in which the team that takes down the enemy base is declared the winner. Players will be able to choose from a roster of different characters each with their own role in the game.

Thanks above all to its resemblance to League of Legends, the game immediately gathered a large audience of players from all over the world. Beloved and hated of its kind, Mobile Legends immediately announced the various official tournaments in which the main gaming organizations and their teams participated. To date it is constantly among the most followed eSports on mobile , expanding its market especially in Europe where it only arrived later.
