20 THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN PERTH

Perth is the typical city that in life we had planned to visit and ta-dan, here we are. One day, looking at flights in Chiang Mai, we saw that there was a very tempting offer: Bali-Perth for about € 80. I don’t know how to talk anymore… we’re going to Australia! Yes, that’s how difficult we are to convince. And here, in this city bathed by the Indian Ocean and blessed by 144 days of sunshine a year, we begin a journey that will take us to travel thousands of kilometers through the Land Down Under.

But let’s go step by step and focus on what concerns us: if you are looking for things to see and do in Perth , we are going to give you 20 ideas, so take note.

  1. There are some interesting buildings scattered around the city center, but you can’t miss St Marys Cathedraland the facade of the Salvation Armybuilding .
  2. If, like us, you love markets, in Perth you will be delighted as there are soooo many. One of the best is the Perth City Farmers Market(Saturdays: 8am – 12pm), where there are a few stalls selling organic fruit and vegetables. An explosion of colors.
  3. Go to Kings Park and Botanic Gardento be surrounded by nature and a beautiful view of the city (if you like photography, you can take a memorable snapshot here). It is one of the largest urban parks in the world!
  4. And if you like green spaces within cities, there are quite a few in Perth. Our favorites: Central Parkand Queens Gardens.

  1. You cannot miss a day trip (or more, if you have time) to Rottnest Island, the island of quokkas, some beautiful marsupials and lovers of XD selfies. Of course, remember not to feed them! We will publish a post about our visit to Rottnest Island soon.
  2. Spend a day, or even an afternoon, on one of Perth’s most famous beaches: Cottesloe. From here, also, the sunsets are very cool.
  3. Other highly recommended and easily accessible beaches are: LeightonScarboroughand Swanbourne . Of course, remember to put on sunscreen (and more than once) since the sun in Australia hits harder than anywhere else.
  4. Stroll along Elizabeth Quayand enjoy its atmosphere among restaurants and good views. Don’t forget to cross the bridge to get one of the best views of the city.

  1. And if you want to have a beautiful and different view of Perth, take a cruise on the Swan River.

  3. Visit nearby Freemantle, a charming little town where you can sample some delicacies at the local market or take a tour of its famous jail (or sleep in it… like we did!). Freemantle is only 30 minutes from Perth and for us it is a must see.
  4. One of the neighborhoods that we found most interesting was Northbridge, with a hipster atmosphere, it is full of restaurants, clubs and it is the center of Perth’s nightlife.

  1. Take advantage of the special dealsfor lunch and dinner and happy hoursto drink. You can find offers like the one at the Gramercys at 15AUS to eat (plus 5AUS for a good beer) or the pints of beer at 6AUS at the Rosie O’Gradys (from 17 to 18).
  2. Come to the Bell Tower, one of the most emblematic buildings in Perth, which has 18 bells and a less curious architecture.
  3. Visit some of the city’s free museums, such as the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art,the  State Library of Western Australia,  or the Art Gallery of Western Australia
  4. Not forgetting the Perth Cultural Center, the perfect place for those who love art and culture. It includes museums, theater, library… come on, it’s a place where you won’t get bored, and it’s free!

  1. You can also visit the Aboriginal Art Galleryand get in touch with one of the most incredible civilizations in the world.  More info .
  2. Heirrison Island, an islet in the middle of the Swan River, is another perfect stop in Perth and the ideal place to see for the first time the quintessential Australian animal: the kangaroo! Here is a reserve of kangaroos in the wild, although they usually go out in the afternoon. It is about 4 km from the city center … incredible but true.
  3. Tour the city by bus for free! There are 4 lines that pass through the different neighborhoods, so if you have a few free hours or need a little air conditioning, we don’t see a better plan!
  4. You know we love exploring cities for street artand Perth has a few surprises. The two streets where we freaked him out the most were Wolf Lane and Grand Lane. If you also like street art, don’t miss this website .
