10 Windows battery programs

The more time passes, the more energy saving begins to enter the public debate. It is therefore no coincidence that more and more people want to be informed about the state of the battery of their laptop (or, why not, of the smartphone), as well as to better regulate everything concerning the latter.

In short, I understand why you are looking for programs to manage the battery , as things have actually changed since a few years ago and it may therefore be worth starting to take this type of functionality more seriously.

Don’t worry: technological progress has brought with it several interesting possibilities in this regard, whether you have a PC with a Windows operating system or if you have opted for a Mac. In addition, I will also quickly focus on the world of devices furniture: below you can find all the relevant information. There is nothing left for me to do, except wish you a good read!

Windows battery programs

Since you are looking for programs to manage the battery , I think it is right to start with the Windows operating system . In fact, the latter is also the one that offers more possibilities in this sense, even at the level of third parties.

However, when it comes to programs to manage the battery on the PC , I think it is right to tend to recommend third-party programs as little as possible , as we still refer to a part already managed at the system level and therefore in most cases it makes little sense to dwell on external programs. In any case, here I am going to explain to you what is referred to both in terms of predefined features and at the level of third-party programs , so you will be able to choose the solution that is most suitable for you.

Windows 10 / Windows 11 default feature

If you’re using a laptop with a Windows 10 or Windows 11 operating system , you might be interested in learning more about the built -in battery management feature first.

In this regard, just click on the battery icon , located at the bottom right in the context of the taskbar , to take a look at the quick options available. In this regard, on Windows 11 you can press on the Battery saver box to activate or deactivate the appropriate mode.

The latter is already potentially able to substantially increase the autonomy of the laptop, but I also advise you to press on the battery icon , located at the bottom left of the window that opens at the bottom right of the screen, so as to access the advanced options in terms of energy saving and battery management.

By doing this, you will be able to take a look at a graph related to the battery level , as well as get an estimate of the remaining life . At the bottom you will then find the options Screen and sleep , Power saving mode , Battery saving and Battery usage , which include several options that can come in handy (for example, to choose when to automatically activate the battery saver and to select whether to decrease the brightness of the screen or not, as well as to obtain statistics on the use of the computer ).

For more details on other possibilities offered by Windows , you may be interested in my guide on how to increase the battery life of your notebook .

BatteryCare

If you are looking for programs to manage the battery for free , net of the default functionality of Windows 10 and Windows 11 , one of the best known solutions is represented by BatteryCare .

In fact, reference is made to a solution that allows you to view information on the status of the battery , monitor charge cycles and increase the autonomy of laptops. It is also able to automatically change the energy saving plan used by the system, depending on the remaining battery charge. Using it, you can also monitor disk and CPU temperatures .

If you want to learn more about this program, which has been available for a long time, just connect to the official BatteryCare portal , click on the More Download Options item and then press the Portable version option (you may also have to click on the X icon , so as to skip advertising). In this way, you will have a portable version of the program, that is, that does not require any installation (the one with classic installation may have promotional software inside, which is best avoided). Put simply, you’ll get a ZIP file to extract , to launch the file laterBatteryCare.exe.

Subsequently, the program will start automatically and will go to the notification area at the bottom right. By placing the mouse pointer on the relative icon you can view, through the window that will open automatically, the information relating to the remaining autonomy , the battery status and the temperature of the CPU and HDD .

By double clicking on the icon instead, you will be able to access the basic information above and the Detailed Information section , with additional information, such as total battery capacity, current capacity, voltage , wear level and so on.

Furthermore, I would like to point out the possibility of adjusting the operation of the program according to your needs and preferences by clicking on the Options button , located at the top left of the window. In this way you can, for example, choose whether to start BatteryCare when the system starts and whether to automatically search for updates , as well as adjust energy saving plans and much more.

Mac battery programs

If you don’t care too much about the aforementioned solutions for Windows , as you have a Mac , this is the part of the guide for you. In fact, below I am going to explore several possibilities that can be useful in this case.

MacOS default feature

The first issue that I recommend you investigate in the case of Macs is the default functionality built into the macOS operating system .

In fact, you should know that it is possible to obtain information on the status of the battery , as well as choose how the laptop should behave in certain contexts. In this regard, to proceed, just press on the battery icon , which is located at the top right of the menu bar . Alternatively, you can take advantage of the Apple path> System Preferences> Battery / Power Saver .

Here I recommend that you select the Battery tab and tick the Show battery status option in the menu bar . In any case, by doing so you will also be able to access various energy saving options , for example being able to choose whether to slightly dim the screen and whether to enable Power Nap when the battery is in use . In addition, in the most recent versions of macOS, there is a feature for optimized loadingof the battery that allows you to protect the health of the battery by avoiding overcharges (so macOS automatically learns when it has to actually “push” the charge to 100% and when instead to stop it, to avoid the stress of the battery itself; you can manage this feature with utilities such as AlDente , available in Setapp , the Netflix-style subscription service for Mac applications I told you about here ).

For the rest, if you’re looking for more guidance on the matter, you might want to refer to Apple’s official guidelines , as well as my guide on how to increase laptop battery life .

coconutBattery

Going beyond the built-in possibilities on macOS , one third-party program you may want to consider is coconutBattery .

In fact, the latter allows you to keep under control not only the status of the Mac battery , but also possibly that of a connected iPhone . In short, you could “kill two birds with one stone”, as they say. To proceed, just connect to the official coconutBattery website , click on the Download vx.xx button .

When the download is complete, extract the software in the Mac Applications folder and start it (then press the Open button ). The coconutBattery window will then appear on the screen : from the This Mac section you can take a look at the information relating to the laptop battery , from Full Charge Capacity to Design Capacity . This last data can be particularly useful, since it indicates the percentage of energy that the battery is still able to accumulate (when it was new the percentage was clearly 100%).

For the rest, you can press the Mac Info and Battery Info keys to get more advanced indications, while if you have an iPhone connected to your computer , just click on the iOS Device tab to take a look at the information relating to the battery status in the same way. of the latter.

You will also be able to compare the status of your battery with that of other users who use the program.

Android battery applications

How do you say? Are you not very interested in the indications related to laptops , given that you are looking for solutions of this type for Android devices ? No problem, I am going to immediately inform you of the general situation.

Well, you should know that even in this context now for many people it makes little sense to go for third-party apps, since there are already several options integrated on Android . Clearly there are many different smartphone and tablet models out there, so I can only be precise up to a certain point with my indications, but in general I recommend you go to Settings> Battery and take a look at the options available in that context.

In fact, here you will generally find indications relating to battery status and usage statistics , as well as functions relating to energy saving and battery management in general . If you need more information, I suggest you in any case refer to my tutorial on how to see the battery status on Android , as well as to the official guidelines of Google .

For the rest, if you are really looking for a third-party app that gives you more information (but, as I said earlier, in these cases I always recommend passing first of all the functions integrated into the operating system), a solution that has become popular over the years is AccuBattery , which can be downloaded for free from the Play Store (excluding advertising and in-app purchases). Are you interested in the latter, I invite you to refer to my guide on how to know if the cell phone battery needs to be changed .

Applications for iPhone battery

To conclude this discussion, I think it is right to quickly deal with the possibilities you have available to manage the battery on your iPhone .

Well, in this case you essentially have everything available through the built-in functions on iOS , so it makes little sense to go for third-party apps. In fact, you just need to press the Settings icon , located on the iPhone Home screen , to then select the Battery option and take a look at all the options of the case.

To be clear, here you will find the possibility to activate the Energy saving option , as well as to monitor the status of the battery (with the percentage of health of the same) and access graphs relating to the use of the iPhone . If you have doubts about what is available to you in this regard, I suggest you refer to my guide on how to increase the battery life of the iPhone .

For the rest, I have already explained in a previous chapter of the guide that it is possible to use coconutBattery , connecting the iPhone to the Mac , to obtain further information on the status of the battery . You may therefore also be interested in consulting my tutorial on how to connect the iPhone to the Mac , as well as you may want to deepen the subject in general through my guide to apps to manage the battery .
