What does stress do to the body?

We are in the century of mental health . It is clear that depression, anxiety and stress are problems that have always existed. But new demands, often coming from the extreme use of technology in our lives, generated a significant impact on people’s emotions.

The difference is that depression and anxiety are diagnosed and treated diseases. But when we talk about stress, everything seems more vague. After all, it is a feeling that everyone knows – of course at different levels – and therefore, it goes unnoticed as something “normal”.

Although no one is unharmed to experience stress occasionally, you certainly know how to differentiate BEING and BEING stressed. And for those who carry that tough title with them, the health consequences can be worrying.

The emotional and physical barrier

When you sprain your foot, you immediately understand that the injury needs to be attended to. After all, you are suffering, which will disrupt your routine and your well-being.

Now, we ask you: why when the pain is not visible, it is internal, does it not receive due attention and concern?

It is very common that the warning about everything that stress can cause negatively is only perceived when the causes are perceived in the physical sphere. And that’s a big problem.

Firstly. because it means that the state is already advanced. But also because we still have a retrograde mentality that the physical is more important and valid than the mental.

Most common physical effects of stress on the body

We list some effects that can arise when living with excessive and constant stress. Remembering that these are just the most recurring ones, but you should always consult with a doctor. As it is not a clinical case for emergencies, telemedicine is a great ally.

  • Extreme eating habits (such as binge eating or lack of appetite)
  • Changes in the stomach: Gastritis, constipation or diarrhea;
  • Migraine;
  • For women, the menstrual cycle can be changed (not bleeding for months, for example);
  • Tachycardia;
  • Decreased sexual libido;
  • Excess sleep or insomnia.

The list is quite extensive. And as you can see, all the side effects of stress push the body to unhealthy extremes.

Emotional

As important as the physical ones, but for most patients, more difficult to be detected by self-analysis.

  • Burnout;
  • Irritability;
  • Anxiety;
  • imposter syndrome ;
  • Sadness;
  • Anguish.

Is there a cure for stress?

In order to respond, we need to go back to differentiating between punctual and chronic stress.

Occasionally stressful situations are totally acceptable and natural in a world with so many demands. It can be said, then, that there is no escape from this stress. On the other hand, this is not something to worry about, precisely because it does not have a high frequency.

With chronic stress, the story is different. It is a condition that deserves due attention and, fortunately, relatively easy to be treated and thus cured .

For this, it is necessary to consult with a psychologist and, if stress has already affected other physical areas of the body, also with ideal professionals for the respective issues.
