Business ethics is a way to carry out business activities, covering all aspects related to individuals, companies and society. Business Ethics in a company can shape the values, norms and behavior of employees and leaders in building fair and healthy relationships with customers/work partners, shareholders, society. Business Ethics can become a standard for all employees including management and serve as a guideline for carrying out daily work based on noble morals, honesty, transparency and a professional attitude.
According to Sonny Keraf (1998), there are five principles that can be used as guidelines for carrying out business practices, including the following:
1. Principle of Honesty
The principle of honesty instills an honest attitude based on actual facts, situations and conditions. In other words, what is said is what is done. This principle also provides compliance in implementing various contracts, commitments and agreements that have been made.
2. Principle of Autonomy
The principle of autonomy shows an attitude of independence, freedom and responsibility. An independent person means a person who can make decisions and then carry them out based on their own abilities and in accordance with what they believe, free from pressure, instigation and dependence on other parties.
3. Principle of mutual benefit
The principle of mutual benefit instills awareness of providing mutual benefits to each other, meaning that in every business action efforts must be made so that all parties feel benefited.
4. Principle of Justice
The principle of justice instills an attitude of being fair to all parties, without discriminating against all aspects, such as economic, legal or other aspects.
5. Principle of Moral Integrity
The principle of moral integrity is a principle that does not harm other people in making business decisions and actions. This principle is based on the awareness that every person must be respected as a human being.
