Top 10 UFC knockouts

The best UFC knockouts are here. Before entering the top 10 of UFC knockouts, it is worth recognizing that. Surely you ever heard someone yell “KO”, now we are here to tell you what it means. The knockout is one of the most popular ways to win in contact sports such as boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai, among others. The term implies that one of the contestants is knocked out. It occurs when one of the two athletes is unable to get up after a certain period of time. This can occur both due to fatigue and damage suffered that causes loss of balance and loss of consciousness.

There is also a technical knockout, which occurs when the referee of the match considers that one of the athletes cannot continue the match. This situation generally occurs when one is in conditions much inferior to the other.

Are UFC knockouts common?

First of all, do you know what the  UFC is ? The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a company that is responsible for promoting events related to mixed martial arts around the world. It has the highest-level fighters and has twelve divisions that operate under the regulation of the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts (Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts). It is the most important organization in the world when it comes to MMA and contact sports and each of the UFC champions represents the best of their discipline.

There are several ways in which a fight can end: submission, by decision of the judges, disqualification, no result, by technical KO and by KO. Without a doubt, the KO is the most famous way to end a match, at least for the winner. While it’s not something that happens in every matchup, we get to see incredible knockouts quite often.

Top 10 UFC knockouts

When choosing the best knockouts there are several variables to take into account, such as: time, type of blow and the attacker’s posture. Regardless of how spectacular the finishing move may be, there are technical factors that make each knockout unique. To meet them and find out what makes the final blow incredible, let’s take a look at the top ten knockouts in the  UFC .

1. Francis Ngannou vs Alistair Overeem

On December 2, 2018 during UFC 218 in Detroit, United States, a mixed martial arts event was held where Max Holloway and José Aldo fought for featherweight as the main card. In the same event they fought Francis Ngannou vs Alistair Overeem in the heavyweight category. Ngannou won the match with a knockout 142 seconds into the match, with a totally brutal left hook after dodging a straight punch from Overeem.

2. Amanda Nunes vs Holly Holm one of the best UFC knockouts

At UFC 239 Amanda Nunes had no mercy and beat Holly Holm with a direct kick to the head at 4:10 in the first round. This type of attack is well known in the American as it guaranteed her victory in 2015 against Ronda Rousey. Thanks to this knockout, Nunes made history, being able to keep her belt and becoming the only one to beat all the former UFC champions.

3. Jessica Andrade vs Rose Namajunas

If you are looking for drama and intensity, then this is the knockout you should see. The Brazilian fighter defeated her rival with a powerful KO. A blow that left each one of the spectators frozen, really showing the danger that each athlete faces.

As was? Andrade took Namajunas and threw her firmly to the ground. Namajunas fell on her head, or rather her shoulders, and was instantly knocked out. Although we all imagine the worst, luckily the American recovered normally and Andrade was left with the victory.

4. Edson Barboza vs Terry Etim

During UFC 142, one of the most impressive knockouts of recent years occurred; Edson Barboza smashed his opponent with a high swing kick, one of the most striking and impressive moves in mixed martial arts. So far, no one in UFC history has managed to knock out this punch, something that put Barboza directly into the hall of fame.

5. Gabriel Gonzaga vs Mirko Cro Cop

Mirko Cro Cop is a fighter famous for directly kicking his opponents’ heads, but this time he got a taste of his own medicine. At UFC 70 Gabriel Gonzaga landed a powerful kick to his head. After the fight was over, in addition to the hit, Cro Cop suffered a minor injury to his ankle and a torn ligament in his knee. Minor injuries compared to the incredible blow to the head.

6. Vitor Belfort vs Wanderlei Silva

Belfort is one of the greatest legends in MMA history for his great victories. So much so that on October 16, 1998, during the first UFC event in Brazil (UFC 17.5) he managed to knock out Silva in a light heavyweight duel.

Back then, the two had a record of good fights with five fights won and one loss. Belfort came out and with a number of quick punches left Silva totally disabled. The fight lasted only 44 seconds. To this day, this fight continues to be one of the most impressive in history. Although many question that it is one of the most important UFC knockouts, it is highly valued for its Jiu-Jitsu key .

7. Chris Weidman vs Anderson Silva

At UFC 162, Chris Weidman managed to hit and knock out Anderson Silva, making the fight one of the biggest upsets in sports history. Weidman won the first round, and at the start of the second, Silva was more lively, trying to tire Weidman to land his final blow. However, Weidman managed to take advantage of the mixed martial arts giant’s moves and finished him off to the ground.

8. Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo

On December 12, 2015 in Las Vegas, United States, UFC 194 was held where the controversial McGregor knocked out Aldo. In this way, the Irishman managed to end Aldo’s streak and became one of the biggest stars in MMA.

How did it all happen? Once the fight started, they both headed downtown and when McGregor saw the opportunity, he took it. With a forceful blow with his left hand, he managed to dispel the legend.

9. Amanda Nunes vs Cris Cyborg

In the UFC 232 co-main event, the renowned Amanda Nunes, second on this incredible list, managed to knock out Cris Cyborg in less than a minute, taking the featherweight division. Nunes put the end to Cyborg’s 17-year supremacy.

His strategy was very simple; observe Cyborg closely and wait for his chance landing as many hits as possible without “going crazy.” Tranquility was the key that guaranteed victory.

10. Jorge Masvidal vs Ben Askren

Fastest KO in UFC history. We don’t need to say much more than this to convey how amazing this match was. Jorge Masvidal managed to beat his opponent in just five seconds at UFC 239. A right knee hit to the face instantly knocked Askren unconscious. Without much else to say, Masvidal’s power was demonstrated.

MMA knockout

Mixed martial arts allow a fighter to be victorious if he manages to render his opponent unconscious. In this way, we can say that a knockout occurs when there is a minor trauma to the brain, which occurs when the head moves very fast or with a very strong blow. However, the athlete may suffer a small contusion, unable to get up but being conscious. In that case, he is given eight seconds to reinstate or a technical knockout is declared.

On the other hand, the definition itself of knockout in mixed martial arts may vary depending on the organization that carries out each event, in the case of the UFC, the aforementioned occurs.
