If a PS4 error code is causing you some problems, you may need to know what it means or what is causing it to sort out a fix. Error codes on the console can be caused by bugs in games or even network issues on PSN that may be out of your control. While some error codes can be sorted out with a neat trick, you may just need to be patient and wait for a HotFix update or network issues to resolve themselves. We’re tracking error codes that are popping up for the PS4 and trying to find the cause for them, as well as the latest fixes to get them on their way. Find out which PS4 error codes are causing you problems below, and we should have all the details you need to get started
PS4 Error SU-30746-0
“System software update failed.”
This SU-30746-0 PS4 error code may appear when your PS4 console has failed to install the latest firmware update. Luckily, PlayStation Support has its own set of recommended steps for you to follow to complete this error code, especially if restarting your PS4 hasn’t resolved the error code:
- Make sure your PS4 is connected to the internet, preferably via a wired connection to your router using an Ethernet cable.
- Go to Notifications and delete any update files by clicking the Options button and then selecting Delete.
- Now go to Settings and select System Software Update to try installing the update again.
If that doesn’t work, you’ll need to manually update your PS4 using a USB drive and Safe Mode on your PS4. Before you begin with this method, make sure you have a FAT32 USB storage device with at least 500MB of free space and access to a PC or Mac. You can read the full details on how to do this PS4 system software update using Safe Mode here, but in short:
- Download the PS4 console update file to your USB drive and save it as “ps4update.pup” in the Update folder you created.
- Connect the USB drive to your PS4 and start the console in Safe Mode by holding the power button and releasing it after the second beep.
- Select Safe Mode Option 3: “Update system software”, then select “Update from USB storage device”
If you’re updating to your PS5, keep this manual update method in mind as it may help with a few PS5 error codes you might encounter.
PS4 Error SU-42481-9
“System software update failed.”
Interestingly, this PS4 error code is the same as SU-30746-0 and can therefore be fixed in the same way. You should refer to the instructions above to see how to resolve this failed firmware update error code, but to summarize, you should try restarting your console, deleting any update files via the notifications menu, or manually updating your PS4 using a USB drive.
PS4 Error Code SU-42118-6
This error code could be a sign of a problem with your PS4 hardware, specifically a bad ribbon connection, and could render your console unusable. If you can still use your PS4, try a few simple steps to fix the problem first – restart your console or check for system updates, for example. If these don’t work, you may have to abruptly confirm your details and perform a factory reset on your PS4.
PS4 Error Code E-8210604A
This PS4 error code appears whenever a payment, perhaps for a PS Plus subscription or a game on the PlayStation Store, fails. Although this may be a temporary issue that lasts a little while, you should try these steps to check that it is not a payment issue on your end:
- Check that the credit or debit card information registered to your account is correct and valid – make sure your card has not expired!
- Try re-registering your credit or debit card. Keep in mind that if you register or delete card information multiple times in a short period, you may be blocked from adding payment information.
- Try it if you can with Defty Credit or Debit Card.
- Top up your PlayStation Store Wallet with a redeemable PlayStation Store Card and pay with your wallet, however this will not work for all purchases.
PS4 Error Code CE-36329-3
Your PS4 may have encountered a data corruption issue if you see this error code. Here’s what you can try to fix it:
- Make sure you have the latest PS4 System Software installed by going to Settings and selecting Software Update. Your PS4 will then restart.
- If you can’t reach the setting, try using the Safe Mode 3 option in PS4 to update the system software.
- If that doesn’t work, back up your save data to make sure you don’t lose anything, then go to Settings, then Initialization, and select Initialize PS4. Alternatively, you can use Safe Mode 6.
- If this error code continues to appear even after you follow these steps, you should contact PlayStation Support as your PS4 likely has a more serious issue.
PS4 Error Code WS-37469-9
“Failed to connect to server.”
This error code may appear if your PS4 has a connection issue, however, it may not be on your end. First, check the PlayStation Network Status page to see if PSN is down or not. If PSN is down, you just have to be patient and wait for it to come back online. However, if everything works to this end, it is likely your internet connection that is causing the problem. Try turning off your router, waiting at least five minutes, and then restarting it.
PS4 Error Code WS-37398-0
This PS4 error code usually appears when the PSN server is down, preventing you from logging in. As with the previous error code, you should check the PSN status page to see if the service is down.
