Pneumonia teas

Some excellent teas for pneumonia are elderberries and lemon leaves, as they have substances that help to calm the infection and eliminate the phlegm that appears with pneumonia. However, eucalyptus and alteia teas can also relieve symptoms, especially the feeling of shortness of breath and phlegm production.

Although these teas can be used by almost everyone, they should not replace the treatment indicated by the doctor, which may include the use of an antibiotic. Thus, these teas should only be used to complement the treatment, helping to relieve symptoms more quickly. Learn more about how pneumonia is treated .

1. Elderberry and onion tea

This tea is an excellent remedy for pneumonia, as elderberries have anti-inflammatory, expectorant and anti-viral action that help to reduce coughing and excess phlegm, characteristic of pneumonia. In addition, the onion has excellent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties to reduce the infection that arises in cases of bacterial pneumonia.

Ingredients

  • 10 g of dried elderberry flowers ;
  • 1 grated onion;
  • 500 ml of water.

Preparation mode

Put the ingredients to boil in a pan, for 5 to 10 minutes. Then remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes. Strain and drink 4 cups a day. This tea should not be taken by pregnant women and babies under 1 year old.

2. Tea with lemon leaves and honey

Tea made from lemon leaves and honey is a great remedy to complement the treatment of pneumonia and increase its effect. Lemon leaves have anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties that help to reduce lung irritation. In addition, honey, with its expectorant action, facilitates the removal of phlegm and increases well-being.

Ingredients

  • 15 g of lemon leaves;
  • 1/2 liter of water;
  • 1 tablespoon of honey.

Preparation mode

Put the lemon leaves in boiling water for about 10 minutes. Then let it cool, strain and add the honey. Take 3 cups of tea a day.

In addition to the benefits mentioned above, when drinking this warm tea, some vitamin C is also ingested, which ends up strengthening the body’s natural defenses.

3. Alteia tea and honey

Alteia is a plant with strong expectorant and antitussive properties and, therefore, its tea can be used in cases of pneumonia to relieve symptoms such as persistent cough and excess phlegm. In addition, as it also has an immunomodulatory action, alteia also helps to strengthen the immune system, helping to fight infection.

Honey can be added to sweeten tea, but it also helps to relieve mucous membrane irritation, especially if there is a sore throat.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon of alteia root ;
  • 200 ml of boiling water;
  • 1 teaspoon of honey.

Preparation mode

Put the root of the alteia together with the water to boil in a pan for 10 to 15 minutes. Then let it warm, strain and drink 3 to 4 times a day. This tea should not be consumed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or by people with diabetes, without the guidance of a doctor.

4. Eucalyptus tea

Eucalyptus tea has been used since ancient times to treat respiratory problems, due to its antiseptic, expectorant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial action that, in addition to relieving cough and phlegm, also help to fight infection and irritation of the lung.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of chopped eucalyptus leaves;
  • 1 cup of boiling water.

Preparation mode

Place the eucalyptus leaves in the cup for about 10 minutes, strain and drink 3 to 4 times a day. This tea should also be avoided during pregnancy.

Eucalyptus leaves can also be used to inhale by placing some in a pot of boiling water and inhaling the steam with a towel over your head.
