Phases of television production

As in almost all audiovisual works to develop a good product, certain artistic, logistical and temporal parameters must be followed that will be addressed in each phase of the project. In the beginning we will have to create a story, seek financing and start getting commitments with the different team leaders from the different production areas . We will indicate in summary form the steps that we would have to take to make a television program.

The first step to take is pre-production , where the general guidelines are chosen ( script, budget, director, main characters or presenters ) and, subsequently, to all members of the technical and artistic team. It is in this step where the locations are searched if necessary and the work plan is developed according to the time and money we have.

Then we would shoot , which is the most expensive phase of the project, where both the staff and the technical material begin to record each of the sequences outlined in the script or in the shooting plan or program design.

The third part is what we call post-production , that if it were a feature film we would have to do the color editing, the editing, add special effects… However, in the television field this phase is carried out while we are shooting the program , since in This means it is very frequent to close a delivery schedule with the channel during the production of the project.

Once these three processes are finished, it is time for distribution and promotion , which will be all the necessary marketing and advertising actions (coordinated with the producer) to position the product in a market as complex as the audiovisual one. If the product is intended for television, the producer must contact the channels and offer them a product that matches the chain’s style.
