How do you pet the fox in Ghost of Tsushima?

As you make your way from Inari Shrine to Inari Shrine in Ghost of Tsushima, unlocking new Charm slots, you will no doubt encounter some foxes. These fox friends help show you the way to hidden Inari Shrines, so it’s only fitting that you give them a cute pet. Unfortunately, some players are unaware of how to pet foxes. Thankfully, we’re here to help you with the definitive answer. Here’s how to pet foxes in Ghost of Tsushima.

How to stroke foxes in Ghost of Tsushima

To pet foxes in Ghost of Tsushima, simply tap “R2” when the prompt appears.

However, there are a few things you need to do to see the “R2” prompt. Follow the instructions below to successfully pet a fox.

  • First, track down a fox by heading to an uncovered fox den or following the fox cries.
  • Once you find a fox, follow it to a hidden Inari sanctuary.
  • Interact with the Inari Shrine by pressing “R2”.
  • After interacting with the sanctuary, turn around and look for the fox. It should be sitting right behind you.
  • Walk over to the fox and press “R2” when the message appears to pet it.

If done successfully, Jin will bend over to pet the fox. To celebrate, the fox will make a couple of cute hops, before walking away.

You don’t actually get anything for petting a fox, but it’s obviously the right thing to do. If you feel like being a monster and saving time between shrines, however, you can just ignore the fox and continue your adventure.
