Osmany Cienfuegos Gorriarán ( Havana , February 4, 1931 ) is a Cuban revolutionary and politician, by profession an architect. After the triumph of the Revolution (January 1959) he held several ministerial portfolios and was a deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power . He also served as Vice President of the Council of Ministers, a position from which he was released in March 2009. [1]
Member of the National Directorate of the ORI (Integrated Revolutionary Organizations), and of the Communist Party of Cuba, to whose Central Committee he belonged. [two]
He was the older brother of the Commander of the Rebel Army Camilo Cienfuegos (1932-1959).

His parents were originally from Asturias (Spain).
He opposed the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista and from Mexico planned an armed expedition to assist the Rebel Army forces that were to disembark through Pinar del Río . It did not materialize when the dictatorship collapsed. After the triumph of the Revolution he held various responsibilities in the state administration apparatus. He was at the head of various ministerial portfolios and was a deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power . He also served as Vice President of the Council of Ministers, a position from which he was released in March 2009.
A member of the Communist Party of Cuba , he was part of the Central Committee elected at its First Congress in 1975 , being successively re – elected until the V Congress .
An architect by profession, in 2011 he was awarded the 2014 Habitat Distinction for his contribution to the development of settlements in the country and in honor of World Habitat Protection Day. [3]
