History according to the Bible
Noah was a fair and just man among the people of his time. God decided that he would entrust to him the task of maintaining the lineage of the men of that land, once God destroyed these generations by growing evil in them and not fulfilling the purpose of his creation.
God (Yahweh) directed Noah to build a boat, and to take with him his wife, his sons Shem, Cam, and Japheth, and their wives.
He also had to carry certain types of animals, female and male, and in different quantities: from the pure he had to take seven pairs and from the impure he only had one pair; and to supply them with food, he told her to take and store the necessary food.
God Yahweh provided Noah with the knowledge and tools to build a ship-size project.
Noah had 120 years for the construction of the ark and in a deserted place and far from any body of water, according to Biblical chronology. While building the Ark, Noah and his family were teased daily by their neighbors who came to harass and offend how Noah built a ship in the middle of the desert.
When Noah finished the construction of the ark, his family and the animals they had sent him entered with him.
“On that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken, and the falls of heaven were opened, and there was rain on the earth forty days and forty nights.” The flood covered even the highest mountains. and all the creatures on Earth died; only Noah and those with him in the ark survived.
After many days, the ark settled on Mount Ararat , and the waters receded for a few days until the tops of the mountains emerged.
First Noah sent a raven that “came out, and was coming and going until the waters dried up on the earth.” Then he sent a dove, which returned because it had no place to roost. He sent the dove again and returned with an olive leaf in its beak and so Noah knew that the waters had receded, he waited seven more days and sent the dove once more, and this time the bird did not return.
Noah and his family and animals came out of the Ark, and he offered a sacrifice to Yahweh, and God decided that he would not again exterminate all living beings with flood waters, nor would there be any more flood to destroy the earth.
To remember this promise, God (Yahweh) put a Rainbow in the clouds and said, “And it will happen that when I bring clouds over the earth, then my bow will be seen in the clouds. And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living being of all flesh; and there will be no more deluge of waters to destroy all flesh. ”
“And God said to Noah … Make yourself a wooden ark of a gofer; you will make rooms in the ark, and you will caulk it with pitch inside and out. And in this way you will make it: three hundred cubits the length of the ark, from fifty cubits its width, and thirty cubits its height. You will make a window to the ark, and you will finish it to a cubit of elevation from the top; and you will put the door of the ark next to it; and you will make a low floor, second and third. ”(Genesis 6: 14-16)
Noah’s Ark was said to have once been the largest ship in the sea built until the first gigantic metal ships began to be built by the 19th century.
Its length to six to one width ratio provided excellent offshore stability. In fact, modern shipbuilders say it would have been almost impossible to turn around. In every way he was admirably prepared to sail during the tremendous storms in the year of the flood.
According to the Bible, it was a chest of resinous wood with compartments, caulked inside and out. It was especially detailed that a skylight was made half a meter from the auction, a door on the side and three overlapping roofs.
Almost all the space available would be for the payload, since it was simply a box intended to float to the garete and they should not carry more than the necessary food and water. The Bible does not report the design of the Ark, and if the measurements are justified, it would be equivalent to a flat-bottom rectangular box with no bow or stern.
Such a design would allow the Ark not to tip over and stranded in any geographical location. It was only designed to float and not to navigate. It is possible that the Ark with all the weight of fauna and people plus its own weight sank between 5 and 7 m deep.

Most Hebrew scholars believe that the elbow was approximately 45 centimeters. This means that the ark would have been 135 meters long, 22.5 meters wide and 13.5 meters high.
These dimensions are especially interesting when compared with those data given in the mythical and Babylonian period of the Ark. Here the ark is described as a perfect cube, stretching 54 meters in all directions and spanning nine stories. Such a boat would slowly roll around in the water and from the point of view of stability, it would be a disaster.
The total available floor space on the Ark would have been more than 9,000 square meters, which would be more available floor space than on 20 full-size basketball courts. The total cubic volume would have been 45,540 cubic meters – that would be equal to the capacity of 569 automobile cargo cars of a modern railway.
A huge problem for Noah could have been collecting specimens of every type of animal that breathes on earth, and bringing them aboard the Ark. However, the Genesis story indicates that God grouped the animals and brought them to Noah two by two aboard the ark.
Noah’s ark. Scientific evidence
An increasing number of scientists believe that geological evidence indicates that our world has suffered a catastrophic deluge. This is causing them to question whether the biblical story of Noah’s ark could be true.
Many people are re-reading the Biblical description of the Ark to determine the feasibility of such a ship being able to fulfill its designated purpose in light of recent knowledge of zoology and our current knowledge of shipbuilding.
The story of the Ark told in Genesis is based on two originally independent sources, many Orthodox Jews and traditional Christians claim that the story of the Ark is true, that it has only one author ( Moses ), and that the perceived faults and repetitions in the text can be rationally explained.
The story of the Ark told in Genesis has similarities in the Sumerian myth of Utnapishtim , which tells how an ancient king was warned by his personal god to build a boat in which he would escape a deluge sent by the higher council of the gods.
The history of the Ark has been the subject of extensive elaboration in the various Abrahamic religions, which mix theoretical solutions to practical problems (for example, how Noah would have disposed of animal droppings) with allegorical interpretations (for example, the Ark would be a forerunner of the Christian church, which offers salvation to humanity).
In the early 18th century , the growth of Biogeography as a science meant that few natural historians felt that they could justify a literal interpretation of the Ark’s history. However, some biblical fundamentalists continue to explore the Mount Ararat region (in northeastern Turkey ), where the Bible literally says Noah’s Ark was settled.
- In 1916 , Vladimir Rosskowizky , a Russian explorer, claimed to have found a vessel half buried under ice at an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level.
- After World War II , many climbers or explorers have reported seeing or finding fragments of the ark near the top of Mount Ararat.
- In 1949 , an American Turkish expedition photographed what would become known as the Ararat Anomaly in the future.
- In 1955 there is again talk of the discovery of the French mountaineer Fernand Navarra who claims to have observed a wooden structure at more than 4,000 meters above sea level, in addition he provided a black wooden crossbar.

- In 1965 , a Turkish airman photographed what he believed to be the footprint of a boat among ice fields in Ararat. Later it would be known as the Ararat anomaly. This anomaly is an unusual geological formation that appears to have been the depository of the ark since it has the shape of a ship as they are currently known and whose measurements are quite similar to those described in the Bible, this geological anomaly found at 4 600 m in height in the Iranian sector, was identified in turn in 1974 by satellites.
- In 2010, Chinese and Turkish researchers who 99% claimed to have found a significant portion of the ark. Those findings included a compartmentalized section of wood dated to the carbon 14 method in 4800 years and that could have housed animals as it looked like a manger. However, at the same time that the discovery was announced, a Christian scientific group claimed that it was a fraudulent setup in cooperation with the peasantry in the area.
